Mothers Out Front is Hiring a Massachusetts Chapters Organizer Near Somerville, MA

Massachusetts Chapters Organizer (PT)
Position Summary
Department: Campaigns & Organizing
Reports to: State Manager
About Mothers Out FrontMothers Out Front builds our power as mothers to ensure a livable climate for all children. We are growing a multi-racial, cross-class, intergenerational movement of mothers, grandmothers, and caregivers dedicated to convincing elected officials and business leaders to work for a swift, complete, and just transition away from fossil fuels to clean and renewable energy. We know that mothers have an important role to play in the climate justice movement, and, when it comes to protecting children, mothers are an unstoppable force for change. Our goal is simple: to enable mothers to take active leadership in climate justice work by providing the structure, training, and tools for them to work together and win campaigns in their communities, cities, and states.
About The RoleWe are seeking highly motivated organizers to join our team and build the organization’s people power in Massachusetts. We are committed to being member-led and you will work to support a diversity of local teams and deepen member engagement and participation. You are at the forefront of building, diversifying, and deepening Mothers Out Front’s power. This position would ideally start late June or early July.
What You’ll Do
  • Organize a team of coaches (experienced volunteers who provide advice, mentorship, and resources to local chapters and issue-based groups). Facilitate regular calls for coaches, providing training, organizational updates, and a forum for peer-to-peer discussion. Conduct periodic 1:1s with each individual. Recruit new coaches as needed to ensure that all chapters and groups have the support they need. Serve as a backup coach if a chapter or team’s regular coach is unavailable or needs additional support to solve a challenge
  • Convene monthly calls for the coordinators of each local chapter and issue-based group. Develop volunteer leadership by recruiting and supporting one or more individuals to plan and facilitate these calls
  • Support volunteer skill development, including a focus on continuously improving JEDI (justice, equity, diversity and inclusion) orientation and practices. Foster a deep understanding of grassroots power and intentional approach to strategy and tactics.
  • Assist local chapters without a local staff organizer and issue-based campaign groups with their data needs. Respond to requests for assistance with digital tools used by Mothers Out Front (Every Action, Zoom, G Suite, etc.). Coordinate with chapters to ensure their email blasts, event sign up pages, and other action items are properly set up, and provide staff approval where necessary. Facilitate reminder emails through the Mothers Out Front Zoom account; provide or arrange for basic Zoom support during meetings for hosts who are still learning the system. Coordinate with national staff to solve higher-level issues that arise
  • Provide operations support to local chapters and issue-based groups. Work with chapter treasurers to submit internal requests for funding and compile expense reports. Order branded materials as needed; coordinate budgeting and logistics with the State Manager, national Operations Team, and local leaders
What You’ll Need
  • At least 4 years experience in grassroots organizing with an emphasis on base building and leadership development, ideally in a grassroots organizing, advocacy, or electoral campaign setting.
  • Solid grounding in and knowledge of Massachusetts
  • Great people skills – you’re great at listening, maintaining relationships, and following up
  • Demonstrated experience engaging and supporting a diverse group of people to reach their goals, including increasing depths of participation
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to social justice and actively works to dismantle systems of oppression, including racism, sexism, misogyny, classism, ableism, homophobia, xenophobia, and other forms of discrimination. Commitment to working with people from a variety of ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as varying religious, educational, generational, and gender identity backgrounds
  • Strong project management skills, coupled with sharp attention to detail, solution orientation, and a demonstrated ability to manage competing and changing priorities effectively
  • Openness to ongoing learning and coaching from colleagues at every level
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills that inspire action
  • Commitment to Mothers Out Front’s approach to power building and willingness to challenge traditional power structures
  • Experience with NGP products (Every Action, VAN, VoteBuilder, etc.).
