Signals Team at Crunchbase

The Crunchbase Signals Team thrives to provide users with insightful information throughout their experience on Crunchbase platform. By combining Crunchbase, private and behavioral data with machine learning systems, we learn to understand the underlying data needs to best assist their day to day work, we then identify and highlight relevant insights and predictions, eventually build personalized experiences that are uniquely valuable to our users. 

The team is composed of Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, Data Engineers working together to deliver models and services into production. We are hiring a hands-on Staff Data Scientist to help shape and build out the intelligence layer for Crunchbase signals products. We are looking to go deeper on the data we have, generating and presenting insights and predictions that help our users better understand our data and offer observations and recommendations specifically tailored to their use-case. The ideal candidate is a creative innovator and an outstanding communicator with strong hands-on skills. They are not only curious about data and what it can teach us, but also care deeply about our users and how to drive an experience that helps them engage with and better utilize our data. 

What You Will Do

  • Work on all aspects of the data science feature delivery cycle, from ideating, advocating future data needs, to assisting in model productionisation.
  • Develop statistical observations and predictive or prescriptive machine learning models according to our business needs, data patterns and performance requirements.
  • Bring in a fresh perspective to the problem space and test out ideas quickly.
  • Own the PoC execution plan for multiple projects in parallel and carry out rapid experiments autonomously with the team.
  • Manage stakeholders for their focus area efficiently - gather changing product requirements, define problem spaces, bring clarity to roadmaps and milestones, and communicate progress and results to a non-technical audience.
  • Help drive the vision of Crunchbase predictive engine and turn our vision into product features.
  • Contribute to define and enhance our machine learning experimentation capabilities.
  • Help establish processes and best practices to help grow our data science guild.

Who You Are

  • You have 6 years of data science, machine learning or advanced quantitative analytics industry experience or equivalent in high growth companies.
  • You are an excellent communicator and able to explain complex issues to stakeholders in simple terms.
  • You like to understand the product and deliver meaningful features that drive the business forward.
  • You like to be hands-on and highly efficient in Python
  • You are familiar with an array of analytics and data tools (e.g SQL, pandas etc).
  • You enjoy finding patterns in data.
  • You iterate fast and love trying different approaches rapidly.
  • You have hands-on experience on shipping machine learning based projects in production and delivering significant impact to customers.
  • You care about agile software, cross teams collaborations and data driven development and evaluation.
  • You are a big believer in Build-Measure-Learn methodology.
  • Prior experience with building predictive analytics products is a plus.
  • Industry experience with NLP is a plus.
