Position Summary:

The purpose of a choir teacher is to lead, direct, and instruct a choir in the performance of vocal music. This includes selecting music, teaching vocal technique, rehearsing, and conducting performances. The choir teacher should also be responsible for developing the choir's musicianship and helping the members to become more confident in their singing. The Choir Teacher is responsible for providing music education to students in a school setting. The teacher will create lesson plans, lead rehearsals and performances, and assess student progress. The teacher will also provide guidance and support to students to help them reach their musical goals. The teacher should have excellent communication and organizational skills, a thorough understanding of music theory, and a passion for music education.

Job Duties & Responsibilities: 

• Maintaining a close, personal walk with the Lord and being a credible Christian role model, in and out of school, in attitude, speech, and action as evidenced by the fruit of the Spirit. 
• Being able to support and comply with the school’s Statement of Faith. 
• Teach all middle school and high school choir courses and other courses as assigned by the High School Principal 
• Partner with other Fine Arts teachers to lead extra-curricular opportunities 
• Plan for instruction through the regular maintenance of course curriculum maps
• Implement assessments in each class to measure student learning and maintain a timely gradebook
• Attend faculty meetings and carry out assigned non-instructional duties
• Partner with the High School Principal to coordinate student performances, festivals, and competitions 
• Carry out other specific responsibilities as assigned by the High School Principal

Qualifications: 

• A current Oregon Teacher’s License or ACSI certification preferred
• A faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of your life.
• At least a BA degree in a music subject from an accredited college or university.
• Demonstrate evidence of strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and technological skills.
• Demonstrate proficiency in singing, conducting, and playing piano.
• Demonstrate knowledge of adolescent cognitive development and the ability to instruct students successfully in music curriculum.
• Demonstrate the ability to inspire learning through effective classroom management and cultivate positive relationships with students.
