Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Full Time Days: Tuesday - Friday

Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio is currently seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for The Health Center at Faith Mission in Columbus, Ohio. Faith Mission is one of the largest homeless shelters in Columbus, Ohio, providing meals and shelter to men, women and Veterans with dignity and compassion.

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is a licensed independent psychiatric practitioner who provides psychiatric and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) services for patients at the LSS Health Center at Faith Mission and CHOICES. The PMHNP works collaboratively with a physician or psychiatrist to provide patient assessment and diagnosis, formulate treatment plans, prescribe medications, order laboratory tests, interpret test results, provide patient education, prepare medical records, and refer patients for inpatient care in accordance with statutes, regulations and protocols regulating the profession. The PMHNP works under the supervision of the collaborative physician or psychiatrist and the Medical Director.

REQUIREMENTS for a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with Lutheran Social Services:

  • Masters of Science in Nursing, with a Psychiatric/Mental Health emphasis, from an accredited college or university.
  • Must be licensed as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Must hold DEA License and have x-waiver or be willing to obtain x-waiver within the first 90 days upon hire.
  • Current provider card in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Experience with electronic health record.
  • Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Preferred experience working with underserved populations, specifically individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Preferred experience with individuals that are dually diagnosed.

RESPONSIBILITIES for a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with Lutheran Social Services:

  • Provides biopsychosocial assessment, diagnosis and treatment plans in accordance with statutes, regulations and protocols regulating the profession.
  • Creates treatment plans and works with the interdisciplinary team to make services and supports available.
  • Collaborates with the supervising physician or psychiatric provider, primary care providers, medical support staff, and behavioral health staff.
  • Provides psychiatric health services, education, counseling and emotional support to patients.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
  • Issues medication prescriptions in accordance with treatment guidelines.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
  • Communicates with patients and engages in follow-up as necessary.
  • May also provide primary medical care services or Medication Assisted Treatment services as indicated, in accordance with statues, regulations and protocols regulating the profession.
  • Makes referrals to primary care or specialty providers, as needed.
  • Responds to emergency requests for consultation after regular business hours when available.
  • Refers patients for in-patient care, as necessary.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of interventions and participates in quality improvement, peer review, and evaluation activities.
  • Documents all services in the Electronic Health Record in a timely manner.
  • Provides patient education regarding medications, risks, benefits and reasonable outcome expectations.
  • Regularly participates in integrated care huddles, team meetings, and other reoccurring meetings as necessary.
  • Participates in QI/QA activities as needed.
  • Participates in the supervision of LSW' s, MSW's and LISW's.
