SHARE Cancer Support
ChineseSHARE Outreach Ambassador
Mission and History
SHARE is a 46-year-old survivor-led organization based in New York City that provides support, information, and resources to women affected by breast, ovarian, uterine, cervical, and metastatic breast cancer. Our mission is to help women and their families address the emotional and practical issues that arise from a cancer diagnosis and to provide the support these women need to feel less isolated, better informed, and more empowered as health care consumers. Approximately 300,000 times each year, SHARE programs touch women and families affected by these cancers, as well as members of the general public, through support groups, helplines, education programs, and outreach initiatives.
Making targeted efforts to reach all women who may be or are affected by these cancers, SHARE places a special emphasis on partnerships and programming for women from medically underserved communities. Through the Ambassador Program, SHARE expressly serves women of color, with a focus on low-income and immigrant women in all five boroughs of New York City, and in communities across the nation.
The Position
SHARE’s Ambassador Program is a grassroots community organizing effort designed to reach out to women in medically underserved communities throughout NYC and reduce outcome disparities in patients with breast or gynecological cancers through education and support initiatives, as well as to reach women pre-diagnosis. SHARE Ambassadors reach thousands of women in underserved African American and Latina communities, and will now expand its reach to the Chinese American community in NYC.
