ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a full-time exempt level position in San Jose, California.
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Communications, this position will play a key role in advancing Destination: Home's top communications and policy objectives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Core responsibilities include:
  • Strategize, develop and implement comprehensive communications campaigns in support of key organizational goals, owning plans from conception to completion to decimate key messaging and help achieve organizational objectives via communications tactics.
  • Conceptualize, write and edit a wide variety of communication materials (including: email newsletters, opinion and editorial pieces, press releases, blogs, reports, letters and presentations).
  • Spearhead collaboration with other staff members and partner organizations to develop and implement communication strategies and tactics that are targeted to an initiative's unique needs.
  • Advance narrative change efforts by staying informed on the latest resources and implementing into communications plans and content development.
  • Provide strategic insight to inform the development and production of multimedia content (i.e. print collateral, videos, infographics).
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED SKILLS
To be considered for this job, a candidate must:
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a position with responsibilities closely related to the job duties listed above.
    • The preferred candidate will also have previous experience in local government, affordable housing development and/or the nonprofit sector and/or working complex public policy issue areas.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills.
  • Superb communicator, with the ability to express complex ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Familiarity with the current industry guidelines and best practices for all major communication platforms and mediums.
  • Proactive and demonstrate a high degree of independence, integrity, responsibility and accountability.
  • Highly organized and effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks with varying deadlines, often in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Hold a commitment to ending homelessness in our community and advocating for safe and affordable housing for all.
In addition, our ideal candidate will:
  • Thrive in a dynamic team environment, where close collaboration with colleagues inside and outside of the organization is key to success.
  • Be a "people person" who truly enjoys interacting with members of the public, including people of different backgrounds, experiences and opinions.
  • Display a high degree of discretion and professionalism when representing the organization.
  • Have experience managing and/or working with consultants.
  • Have lived experience of homelessness and/ or housing insecurity.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Vietnamese or another major language is desirable, but not required.
ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Reliable personal transportation, a valid California driver's license and proof of automobile insurance (driving to different community locations is an essential function of the position; mileage is reimbursable).
  • On occasion, availability on evenings and weekends to deliver presentations and/or attend community meetings/ events.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Destination: Home is committed to offering competitive salaries and comprehensive benefits. The target hiring range for this position is $130,000 to $150,000 per year based on experience, credentials and internal salary equity.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
