Overview:
The Junior Estimator is responsible for the development of accurate, timely and detailed cost estimates of mid size to large heavy highway and civil site development projects, including earth work, utilities and paving activities as directed by the Senior Estimator. The Junior Estimator must have experience and the ability to learn takeoff and estimating software and be proficient in computer programs including Microsoft Windows, Office, Excel and Project. Ability to run AutoCad a plus.
Responsibilities:
- Review projects from our bid bulletin reports and provide to Senior Estimator.
- Examines bid package specifications and drawings to determine scope of work deliverables, work quantities and bid units required for submission of quotes to clients.
- Attends pre-bid meetings as directed.
- Prepares accurate take-off of materials for self performed work, request quotes from vendors and subcontractors.
- Review quotes from vendors and subcontractors for conformity to contract requirements and determines acceptable bids, scope of work proposed and exclusions.
- Assist as directed to develop project estimates/budget from costs developed utilizing manpower, materials and equipment costs based on established production rates and sequencing and input data into HeavyBid software.
- Assist as directed to develop and maintain resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, as required by ODOT and other municipal government requirements, etc.
Required Qualifications:
- Willing to learn and take direction well, ie team player
- B.A./B.S. or Associate Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent experience.
- Ability to learn and be trained in company estimating software, engineering principles and construction principles which include Microsoft Office/Project/Excel, HeavyBid, Heavy job and Agtek.
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills
- Excellent computer skills and the ability to quickly learn new software as required to complete job duties.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude toward work including striving for maximum production.
