Latin School of Chicago has a need for a part-time Upper School Visual Art Teacher for the remainder of the 2023-24 school year. We are seeking a teacher that will bring the capability to teach and supervise multiple grade levels and establish effective working relationships with students of all ages, as well as faculty, staff, administration, and parents.

EXPECTATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Work on a team of three to four Visual Art teachers by attending team meetings, following a preset curriculum, giving feedback on the curriculum, and collaborating on assessments.
  • Teach 3 Visual Art electives: 9th-grade Global Studies Visual Art, Painting for 9th through 12th grade students, and an Advanced Placement elective for 11th and 12th grade students.
  • Apply appropriate instructional methods for meeting lesson objectives.
  • Implement lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher.
  • Utilize and manage classroom technology
  • Use Standards-Based Assessment and grade calculations in all courses.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree is the minimum requirement. Master’s degree in education or Visual Art, or related content field is preferred.
  • 3-5 years experience teaching Visual Art in a secondary school setting is preferred.
  • Strong critical thinking, reflection, and communication skills, including spoken and written communication.
  • Must be flexible in using standards-based assessment for assessments.
  • Able to use the Google suite platform and Canvas for communication, grading assessments, keeping grades, student digital portfolios, and curriculum. Applicants do not have to be an expert with these programs but must have strong technology skills and a desire to learn.
  • A flexible, cooperative, collaborative, diplomatic, and proactive person who is able to receive feedback, agile and responsive to the changing needs of students and colleagues, enthusiastic to meet with students before or after school or during free blocks, a team player who can support departmental and divisional initiatives as well as Latin’s Statement of Teaching and Learning.
