New Horizons is the largest mental health and addiction recovery provider on the Treasure Coast (and beyond), serving 15,000 children and adults annually through inpatient crisis services, 24-hour help line and mobile response team, and outpatient programs conveniently located across Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties. In addition, New Horizons assists 22,000 students in area schools, and we work closely with the courts, law enforcement, jails, and hospitals to help improve the health of individuals and the quality of life in our community.

We are seeking a Full-Time Patient Accounts Specialist to perform various insurance, customer support and clerical activities for our busy Billing Department.

As a Patient Account Specialist, your job duties will include:

  • Responsible for client insurance setup in computer system
  • verifies insurance coverage and document information
  • calls insurance companies for extended authorizations when needed
  • coordinates support services, specifically insurance setup with other agency departments
  • Completes all necessary trainings such as agency onboarding requirements, insurance training, annual training requirements
  • Provides coverage for incoming telephone calls
  • Performs other duties as required
  • Insurance verification, patient calls, billing inquiries.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years medical billing/accounts receivable experience, customer support and clerical activities
  • Must be computer literate with strong data entry skills.
  • Must adhere to Confidentiality, HIPAA Privacy Rules, and data security policies.
  • Must be a self-starter with solid organizational skills, solid work ethics, and professional attitude.
  • Must be detail oriented, with effective organization and time management skills.
  • Must exhibit sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the agency’s staff and clients.
  • Must have a positive attitude, strong communication and customer service skills, and work cooperatively within a team environment.
  • Must adhere to professional ethics and have ability to interact appropriately and effectively with families, children, community resources, service providers, and other professionals over the telephone, zoom, email, texting and face-to-face contacts.
