JOB SUMMARY:Perform the duties of a licensed pharmacist; ensures the safety and security of merchandise; ensures rigid adherence to all laws and regulations governing the sale of pharmaceuticals. Accurately reviews and interprets medication orders; prepares accurate and complete patient profiles; reviews profiles for correct drug, dosage, and route of administration; ensures that no drug duplication or drug-drug interaction exists; ensures that patient is not allergic to any medication prescribed. Dispense drugs prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and provide information to patients about medications and their use. Efficiently performs other professional pharmacy duties including the safe procurement, preparation, labeling, distribution, and control of all drugs. May advise physicians and other health practitioners on the selection, dosage, interactions, and side effects of medications.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES):
  • Ensure Patient Safety
  • Review prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability.
  • Verify accuracy of patient information.
  • Provide information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage.
  • Communicate detailed medical information to patients or family members.
  • Advise patients on effects of health conditions or treatments.
  • Maintain records, such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, charge system files, inventories, control records for radioactive nuclei, or registries of poisons, narcotics, or controlled drugs.
  • Plan, implement, or maintain procedures for mixing, packaging, or labeling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.
  • Assess the identity, strength, or purity of medications.
  • Prepare medications or medical solutions.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to plan or provide treatment.
  • Advise medical personnel regarding healthcare issues.
  • Order and purchase pharmaceutical supplies, medical supplies, or drugs, maintaining stock and storing and handling it properly.
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies or equipment.
  • Analyze prescribing trends to monitor patient compliance and to prevent excessive usage or harmful interactions.
  • Advise customers on the selection of medication brands, medical equipment, or healthcare supplies.
  • Compound and dispense medications as prescribed by doctors and dentists, by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients, or oversee these activities.
  • Prepare medications or medical solutions.
  • Perform administrative duties or buying or selling non-pharmaceutical merchandise.
  • Provide specialized services to help patients manage conditions such as diabetes, asthma, smoking cessation, or high blood pressure.
  • Offer health promotion or prevention activities, such as training people to use blood pressure devices or diabetes monitors.
  • Instruct patients in the use of assistive equipment.
  • Contact insurance companies to resolve billing issues.
  • Teach pharmacy students serving as interns in preparation for their graduation or licensure.
  • Refer patients to other health professionals or agencies when appropriate. Refer patients to other healthcare practitioners or health resources.
  • Update or troubleshoot pharmacy information databases
  • Provide information on policies and procedures and/or information on use of drugs in the patient treatment plan. Provide advisory information to patients and the medical professionals at the facility.
  • Ensures compliance, procedures, and regulations for assigned areas by analyzing and interpreting reports, implementing and monitoring loss prevention and safety controls, overseeing safety, operational, and quality assurance reviews, developing and implementing action plans, and providing direction and guidance on executing Company programs and strategic initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION and/or SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE::
  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or PharmD degree recognized by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education.
  • Must be unrestricted licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of Wisconsin.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.Work is performed in an office environment utilizing various office equipment including, but not limited to, a computer, copy machine, fax machine, and multi-line phone. Ability to communicate effectively over the telephone, by computer and in person.
