Industrial Automation Project Estimator

Zing Recruiting, in partnership with a prominent industrial machinery and automation manufacturer in the Spartanburg, SC area, is seeking an Industrial Automation Project Estimator to support company growth. This role focuses on developing accurate cost estimates and proposals for custom industrial machinery and automation projects.

Industrial Automation Project Estimator Job Summary

• Salary: ~$75,000/year
• Job Type: Full-Time, Salaried
• Shift/Hours: Standard business hours (flexible as needed)

Key Responsibilities

• Review RFQs, specifications, and technical drawings.
• Build detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, machining, automation, and subcontractors.
• Prepare proposals and pricing summaries for customers.
• Collaborate closely with engineering to define project scope and concepts.
• Track estimate accuracy and support value engineering efforts.
• Communicate effectively with Sales, Engineering, and Manufacturing to ensure proposals are competitive and accurate.
• Apply hands-on manufacturing awareness to understand actual equipment fabrication, machining, and automation integration.
  
  

Industrial Automation Project Estimator Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience estimating custom machinery or automation systems.
• Strong understanding of fabrication processes: welding, machining, forming.
• Knowledge of automation components: PLCs, HMIs, motors, drives, sensors.
• Strong Excel and data analysis skills.
• Experience in OEM or industrial manufacturing environments.
• Practical, hands-on approach; able to collaborate with engineers and production teams to align cost, scope, and feasibility.

• Strong communicator able to work cross-functionally between Sales, Engineering, and Manufacturing.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment.
• Focused on practical, manufacturable solutions rather than purely theoretical estimates.
