IT Director of Infrastructure

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Director of Infrastructure to lead enterprise-wide modernization initiatives across Microsoft Azure and on-prem data center environments for a leading insurance provider.

This is a full-time hybrid role based in Frederick, MD, with a strong preference for candidates who can work on-site as needed.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in infrastructure architecture, cloud technologies, and enterprise transformation, with the ability to align technology roadmaps to business growth strategies while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Responsibilities for the Director of Infrastructure include:

• Lead infrastructure architecture and future-state definitions to support corporate goals.
• Manage infrastructure functions including systems administration, virtualization, storage, networking, and data center operations.
• Collaborate with Cybersecurity and Application Engineering teams to maintain a strong security posture and align transformation initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with corporate policies, state regulations, and security standards.
• Develop and maintain SLAs, OKRs, and performance metrics to meet business expectations.
• Oversee infrastructure risk assessments, capacity planning, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Drive modernization through automation, proactive monitoring, and adoption of best-in-class hosting environments.
• Manage vendor relationships and ensure adherence to contractual and performance obligations.
• Lead and mentor a team of 10–15 staff, fostering career development and Agile delivery practices.
• Develop and manage infrastructure budgets (approx. $5M), ensuring cost control and strategic investment.
  
  

Required Qualifications for the Director of Infrastructure include:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (advanced certifications preferred: MSCE, CCNA, CISSP, ITIL).
• 15 years of infrastructure experience, 5 years in leadership roles, and 3 years with public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
• Proven experience in stakeholder management, infrastructure modernization, and compliance.
• Expertise in Agile methodologies, automation, and proactive monitoring.
• Strong leadership, communication, and strategic planning capabilities.
• Ability to manage complex budgets and deliver measurable business outcomes.
  
  

Compensation for the Director of Infrastructure includes:

• Salary Range: $157,100 – $227,800 annually
