Purpose of Position:

With the support of the Director of Childcare Services and Assistant Director of Childcare Services, the YWCA Childcare Site Supervisor is responsible for the delivery and operations of daily programs under the YWCA Childcare Programs for children ages 18 months – 12 (preschool, out-of-school, and summer camp programs). These programs are designed to provide safe, supervised, enriched care for children where their overall development is encouraged and enhanced in the spirit of the YWCA.

This role will be a management level, supervisory role underneath the Director & Assistant Director and serves as the direct supervisor of school age, summer camp, and support staff. This role is primarily responsible for the overall supervision of daily direct service operations for the YWCA preschool, school age, and summer camp childcare programs, including providing direct service as needed to meet licensing ratio requirements; managing school-age child disciplinary actions/decisions; providing daily guidance and support to school-age support staff in direct service; and developing/delivering the school age programs (out-of-school and summer camp).

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Programming:

  • Supervises the overall daily operations of the YWCA Childcare Programs (preschool, school age, and summer camp)
  • Monitors ratios and ensures programs are within licensing requirements, providing direct service as needed to cover breaks and callouts
  • Participates in and supports the Aquatics and Food and Nutrition Program to ensure collaborative programmatic success
  • Directly participates in programming as needed for ratios and/or engagement, including swimming, gardening, and field trips
  • Assists the Director and/or Assistant Director of Childcare Services in requests for managing specific child behaviors
  • School Age Programs (Out-of-School & Summer Camp)
  • Creates, develops, and facilitates programs and activities designed to enhance the learning of participants after school, during school closures, and for summer camp (may include swimming, field trips, enrichment, etc.)
  • Ensures that quality care is tailored and grouped according to age or ability and that programming meets the developmental needs of children in care
  • Oversees the implementation of developmentally appropriate and engaging programming, with opportunities to participate in a variety of enriching activities
  • Monitors the welfare of children involved in the program and reports on their development to the Director of Childcare Services
  • Ensures that school-age child discipline issues are handled in a sound and respectful way and those problems are prevented or minimized through appropriate strategies and plans
  • Meets the social-emotional, physical, and developmental needs of individual school age children, including 1:1 direct service and discipline as needed

Communication:

  • Provides clear daily direction for direct service staff supervised by this role
  • Provides timely coaching and feedback to staff regarding specific, observed direct service
  • Actively participates in supervision of direct care staff alongside the Director of Childcare Services, communicating updates regularly with directors when formal feedback is required
  • Assists the Director and/or Assistant Director in planning and delivering staff training
  • Maintains effective communication with Director/Assistant Director about the activities of children
  • Maintains confidentiality protocols
  • Models respectful, encouraging, and positive communication at all times with parents, colleagues, and children
  • Works collaboratively with other department staff and supports the whole department as needed
  • Scheduling: Submits time off/scheduling concerns at least two weeks in advance in writing to supervisor. Notifies supervisor by phone as soon as possible in event of an emergency that prevents employee from reporting to the YWCA on time

Administration:

  • Familiarity with current knowledge of applicable laws, licensing regulations, and YWCA policies and procedures. Ability to alert Director of Childcare Services to any gaps in knowledge or potential non-compliance with laws and/or regulations
  • Maintains safety and health policies and regulations at all times, as required by childcare licensing
  • Assures that the indoor and outdoor spaces utilized by the school age childcare programs is set up (including non-janitorial cleaning such as wiping down surfaces daily, cleaning messes as they occur on floor or other surfaces during the school day, keeping areas organized, tidying bathrooms, etc.); and assures indoor and outdoor spaces are maintained
  • Ensures daily closing responsibilities are met by support staff (including mopping the gym floor, returning tablets and items to the childcare office, etc.)

Organization Activities (as appropriate and/or required):

  • Attends and actively participates in all staff development opportunities, staff meetings, and trainings as required
  • Participates in agency events, meetings, and activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Assists in training and orientation of new staff and volunteers
  • Abides by agency policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Maintains ethical and professional standards

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to sit/stand/walk for extended periods
  • Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds
  • Adheres to universal safety precautions

Knowledge and Experience:

Qualifications:

  • Pass State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) check; Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) check; Department of Motor Vehicle check
  • Reliable transportation to and from work
  • Ability to work as a contributing member of a professional, effective work team
  • Ability to complete required paperwork accurately, factually, concisely
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed
  • Dependable and flexible in a changing work environment
  • Ability to participate in the training and orientation of new employees and volunteers

  • Ability to oversee both small and large groups of children at the same time, while also supervising within the program, including directing and modeling for staff
  • Demonstrate general knowledge of nutrition, health, and first aid.
  • Ability to swim with the children in the pool and/or outdoors (off-site field trips)
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of culturally diverse populations
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft office suite

Education and Experience:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Minimum one year experience working with children; and/or 3 months experience working at a camp program; and/or comparable and demonstrated experience through education program (example: 30 credits of college courses in education or related field)
  • High School diploma or equivalency
  • CPR & First Aid Certified (can provide if not currently certified)
  • Familiarity with, and commitment to, the YWCA’s mission
  • Experience managing or supervising others
  • Preferred: Experience in program development or youth event planning
  • Preferred: Minimum education/experience to act as on-site director in absence of Director or Assistant Director

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
