Position Summary
The Barista/Cashier prepares and serves hot and cold beverages—including alcoholic drinks—takes food orders, and provides friendly, efficient, and accurate customer service. This role requires multitasking in a fast-paced environment, maintaining café cleanliness, operating the cash register, and performing closing procedures while delivering a positive guest experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Guest Service & Customer Interaction
- Provide exceptional guest service with a friendly, courteous, and efficient attitude.
- Take and fill guest food and beverage orders accurately.
- Interact with guests to ensure complete satisfaction and exceed expectations.
- Check identification to verify legal drinking age and monitor alcohol consumption, seeking manager assistance when necessary.
Beverage & Food Preparation
- Brew specialty coffee and espresso drinks.
- Fill beer and wine orders.
- Prepare food and complete daily prep lists.
- Read tickets, pull products in the specified order, call side items, and coordinate with grill cooks.
Cash Handling & Point of Sale
- Operate the cash register and handle transactions accurately.
- Count the cash register (till) at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure accuracy.
Cleanliness & Maintenance
- Sanitize work areas before, during, and at the end of each shift.
- Ensure all equipment is clean.
- Assist with dishwashing as needed.
- Perform janitorial duties and other cleaning tasks as assigned.
- Maintain assigned side-work to ensure the smooth operation and cleanliness of the café.
Stocking & Organization
- Stock and restock items on the line according to specifications.

- Report to work in a neat, clean uniform and maintaining proper personal hygiene.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must pass a pre-employment background check.
- Must have a current TAP certification or be able to complete certification by the time of hire.
- Must have a current Municipality of Anchorage food handler’s card or be able to complete certification by the time of hire.
- Knowledge of over-the-counter retail sales and comfort using point-of-sale systems.
- Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and judgment skills; able to work under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to suggestively sell food and beverage items.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to coordinate with grill cooks and servers.
- Willingness to work extended hours, various shifts, holidays, and weekends as needed.
- Previous retail or over-the-counter food and beverage service experience preferred.
- Ability to read orders on tickets and judge the quality and quantity of raw and cooked items.
- Basic mathematics, reading, writing, and computer skills; ability to make change.
- Knowledge of workplace safety procedures.
