Position Summary
The Kitchen Assistant supports the culinary team and waitstaff in delivering exceptional customer service by performing a variety of tasks to ensure smooth kitchen operations. Responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness, keeping the kitchen well-stocked, and washing dishes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
Cleanliness and Sanitation
- Sanitize work areas before, during, and at the end of the shift.
- Ensure all equipment is clean and properly maintained.
- Wash dishes, utensils, pots, and pans, placing them in assigned storage areas in an organized manner.
- Complete daily and weekly cleaning and maintenance tasks (e.g., fryers).
- Perform janitorial duties as assigned.
- Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
Food Preparation Support
- Assist in preparing food or cooking vegetables, entrees, sauces, meats, and coffee as needed.
- Stock and restock items on the line according to specifications.
- Support waitstaff by providing clean dishes, utensils, and other items as needed.
Operational Support and Professionalism
- Maintain assigned side-work to ensure the total cleanliness and smooth operation of the restaurant.
- Report to work in a neat, clean uniform and maintain proper personal hygiene in accordance with company policy.
- Perform other duties as directed to support kitchen and restaurant operations.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Must be 18 years or older and pass a pre-employment background check.
- Reliable transportation required.
- Ability to obtain a current Municipality of Anchorage food handlers' card or complete certifications by the time of hire.
- Ability to work independently, in a team, and with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks under pressure.
- Dependable with consistent attendance.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to coordinate with grill cooks and servers.
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills, including making change.
- Knowledge of workplace safety procedures.
- Strong multi-tasking abilities and proficiency with equipment and tools.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this position successfully.
