Our rapidly expanding behavioral health organization is seeking an experienced General Counsel to serve as the organization's chief legal advisor. Supporting 26 treatment facilities across 9 states, this executive will partner closely with senior leadership to provide strategic legal guidance that fuels growth while ensuring compliance across a complex healthcare regulatory landscape. About the Role
The ideal candidate has a proven track record advising executive teams on healthcare regulations, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, provider contracting, commercial real estate, and enterprise risk management.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary legal advisor to the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors.
- Provide strategic counsel on healthcare laws and regulations, including Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, and commercial payer compliance.
- Draft, negotiate, and oversee complex commercial agreements, provider contracts, payer agreements, vendor contracts, and other legal documents.
- Lead legal support for organizational growth initiatives, including de novo expansion, mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, affiliations, and strategic partnerships.
- Oversee commercial real estate transactions, including multi-state lease negotiations, acquisitions, and property-related matters.
- Advise leadership on corporate governance, employment law, litigation management, compliance investigations, and enterprise risk mitigation.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with federal and state healthcare regulations across all facilities.
- Collaborate with Operations, Finance, Compliance, Human Resources, Revenue Cycle, and Business Development to support strategic initiatives.
- Manage outside counsel and oversee litigation and legal expenditures as needed.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school with an active bar license in good standing.
- 10 years of progressive legal experience, including significant experience in healthcare law.
- Extensive knowledge of healthcare regulatory compliance, medical insurance, reimbursement, provider contracting, and multi-state healthcare operations.
- Proven success supporting healthcare organizations through expansion, acquisitions, commercial real estate transactions, and complex corporate initiatives.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to deliver practical legal solutions that support organizational growth while effectively managing risk.
- Exceptional negotiation, communication, executive presence, and leadership skills.
Salary : $250,000 - $300,000
