What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Recreation Camp Counselor position at York County?
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Current college student or a recent college/university graduate preferred. Must have at least 1 to 2 years of experience in Special Education, Therapeutic Recreation or related field working with children, specifically children with special needs preferred; or any equivalent education combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
Must exercise considerable tact and courtesy when interacting with program participants, parents and support staff.
A consistent and reliable attendance record throughout the 4-week program is required.
Must be available to work a revised schedule when needed.
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
This job is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment checks to include criminal history, background and DMV record checks.
Ability to work with children with special needs that may include special medical conditions, dietary concerns, and/or behavioral problems.
Must have excellent communication skills.
Must have good leadership skills.Must be creative and energetic.
Camp runs for 4 weeks from June 23rd through July 18th . Hours of work are Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm.
Position is work as required, no benefits.
Must be physically able to operate common office equipment such as personal computers, typewriters, copiers, calculators, etc. Work will involve both sitting and standing. Requires regular and at times sustained, performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking/running over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, kneeling, leaping, jumping down, standing in place or continual walking, lifting and carrying of moderate to heavy items (including people) on a consistent basis. There is occasional lifting of boxes, usually nothing weighing any more than 15-20 pounds.
