Position Summary
Job Description:
The Department of Communication & Writing is seeking qualified adjunct faculty to teach courses in the Foundations Communication program. This program includes a first-year course (FCO 105: Rhetorical Communication) and advanced communication courses (FCO 210: Communication in Professional Cultures; FCO 215: Technical and Scientific Communication; FCO 225: Interdisciplinary Communication) that integrate instruction in written, oral, and visual communication, focusing on applications in undergraduate-level coursework and research.
Outcome:
Faculty are responsible for designing and teaching courses that support student attainment of course learning outcomes.Essential Functions
- Prepare syllabus and course schedule in accordance with the college’s guidelines and the FCO program’s shared curriculum.
- Hold class meetings as scheduled by the college.
- Use active learning strategies to engage students in well-designed class meetings to meet course outcomes.
- Provide timely feedback on papers and other course assignments.
- Hold one in-person office hour each week.
- Use technology (e.g., Canvas, Spartan Success Network) as established and communicated by the college to carry out the duties associated with teaching.
- Communicate proactively with the department chair and FCO program director about any student or teaching concerns throughout the semester.
Experience and Education Required
A successful candidate will have the following:
- Master’s degree or higher in rhetoric and composition or English Education
- Undergraduate teaching experience.
