- Monitor compulsory attendance and coordinate interventions, including home visits. Contacts parent/guardian when the school has not been notified about an absent student.
- Meets with Principals, Counselors, Teachers, and other staff members concerning student's attendance in the Mini Truancy Task Force, Truancy Intervention Session, and completes Truancy Elimination Plan. Attendance Officer will complete TEP alone if no other staff member is available.
- Maintain and review reports designed to monitor attendance problems such as attendance problems reports, First Legal Notices and Citations. Prepares and presents oral and written reports (Log Sheet) concerning home visits, hearings, phone calls, meetings and, school visits. Prepares other reports and records as requested by supervisor, appropriate school and county agencies in an accurate and timely manner
- Process Citations for truancy, prepares and presents truancy cases for hearings and appeals before York City District Justices and the Court of Common pleas.
- Investigates residential status for possible tuition cases, affidavits of guardianship and verification of addresses for children placed in facilities or institutions (4605's).
- Work with local agencies to coordinate efforts to assist students. Initiates referrals to community resources (e.g. legal, health, welfare, etc.).
- Communicate with law enforcement agencies to gather information regarding situations that occur outside of school that could have an impact on our safe school environment.
- Develop and implement attendance and security procedures in compliance with NCLB regulations. Intervenes in confrontations for the safety of students and others, to prevent fights, to control or isolate trouble areas and to ascertain information pertaining to altercations.
- Respond and transport students in police custody and return them to their appropriate school.
- Respond when security related problems are anticipated or occurring when requested by district administrator.
- Complete home visits and transports, particularly if information indicates risk factors are such that a NCLB Officer and possibly police should complete the visit.
- Notify Supervisor of Student Services and affected building Principal of problems with community agencies.
- Assist as needed to facilitate community participation in school activities.
- Uses a computer to prepare and process information (e.g. input, compile, tabulate, post, store, retrieve, scan, modify, print, etc.). Verifies the accuracy of data as directed.
- Present letters/First Legal Notices outlining the legal consequences of continued truancy in-person or mails written notification when contacts cannot be established.
- Maintains high standards for student conduct. Encourages students to acknowledge and manage responsible personal conduct.
- Performs data-entry related to attendance related issues.
- Reviews and interprets custody rulings. Helps building administrators resolve jurisdiction issues.
- Works with Supervisor of Student Services to manage risk factors.
- Maintain the confidentiality of privilege information.
- Participates in staff meetings and professional growth opportunities as directed.
- Performs other job-related duties as directed, including general office functions related to student attendance and parental support.
