DESCRIPTION

The County of Yolo is recruiting for one regular, full-time Adult Services Librarian position at the Yolo County Library. The Librarian I/II - Adult Services will be assigned to the Arthur F. Turner Community Library in West Sacramento and will work with a creative team of professionals, paraprofessionals, and community partners to deliver exceptional service to adults of all ages in the City of West Sacramento and the East Yolo region.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The position will be responsible for envisioning, planning, implementing, and evaluating system-wide and local programs and services for adults, including co-coordinating annual programming; serving as a lead for technology related services; applying for and managing grants and grant-funded services; regularly providing outreach services in West Sacramento and the East Yolo region, focusing on reaching underserved communities; serving as a liaison with community partners; developing partnerships with other adult-serving agencies; and overseeing adult volunteers as well as training, supervising, and working with job coaches.

Job duties also include regular collection maintenance, including government documents; reference and reader’s advisory services and library instruction; all phases of circulation; promoting the collection; engaging in system-wide committee work; serving as a Person in Charge responsible for opening and closing the branch; providing continuity of services; and ensuring library policies and procedures are enacted consistently and equitably. The position is expected to provide excellent customer service to the public and follow a collaborative culture of inclusion and community engagement. The incumbent is required to work regular evening and weekend hours.

The candidate selected will be placed at the Librarian I or Librarian II level depending on their background and experience and at the discretion of the appointing authority. The salary range for each classification level is as follows:

Librarian I: $60,424 - $73,466 Annually

Librarian II: $74,485- $90,522 Annually

The Ideal Candidate

  • Will be a community-oriented professional who is bilingual in Spanish, Russian, or Farsi though other languages may also be desirable.
  • Should be enthusiastic about promoting the library to a diverse community and reducing barriers to access.
  • Show a broad understanding of, and demonstrate support for, diversity, equality, and equity for everyone in the community.
  • Commitment to maintaining equitable, inclusive, and respectful environments so that every person in the organization has the opportunity to reach their full potential and is valued for their unique qualities and contributions.
  • Experience working in a multilingual, multicultural environment is highly desired.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Librarian I
Education: Master's Degree in Library Science or Library Information Services or related library field from an accredited graduate school of Librarianship.

Librarian II
Education: Master's Degree in Library Science or Library Information Services or related library field from an accredited graduate school of Librarianship; AND
Experience: Two (2) years of professional library experience comparable to the functions performed by a Librarian I at the County of Yolo

Verification of Education

Acceptable forms of educational documentation are official/unofficial transcripts or copy of diploma that list the student's name, institution name, field of study and date the degree was awarded. For recent graduates who have not received proof of their degree, a letter from the registrar's office stating that all requirements for graduation have been met and listing the field of study will be sufficient proof of graduation.

Please do not send originals; copies of the required documents are acceptable. Any submitted documents will not be returned.

All foreign transcripts or diplomas must be in English. If the institution does not provide these documents in English, the applicant will need to provide a translation which has been done by a professional agency. The County of Yolo will accept education as equivalent to U.S. accreditation from Institutions that are listed as members of the International Association of Universities. You may check for your school by visiting the IAU web site (https://www.iau-aiu.net/content/institutions).

Applicants who possess a degree or completed coursework that is not from an accredited college or university, must submit one of the following:

  • A written statement from a U.S accredited university or college that states that the applicant is qualified for entrance to a program of graduate studies for which a degree in a related field is required.
  • An evaluation of the applicant's degree and coursework equivalency by a private organization that provides foreign credential evaluation services. The evaluation must include a comparison of comparable U.S. courses for content, credit and grade.

Note: Foreign language documents must include a precise word-for-word English translation of all foreign language documents. It is the responsibility of each applicant to prove to the satisfaction of the County that the applicant meets the specific requirements listed on the job announcement for each specific examination.
