Job Description

Under the direction of the Director of Facilities is responsible for the maintenance, repair and general upkeep of the branch properties, equipment and facilities. This may include supervision of YMCA staff and coordination of YMCA vendors and contractors, as needed. Responsibilities include equipment maintenance and ensuring culture of cleanliness and safety. Experience in managing HVAC, pool operation, electrical, plumbing and mechanicals, a plus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to: climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for an extended period of time, climb ladders, walk, shovel snow, plow snow, lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity.

The work is performed both indoors and out regardless of weather conditions, and may require travel to various locations. While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and/or trade and vocational training, preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in facility maintenance or building trade required.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical repair and other maintenance-related areas.
  • Knowledge and experience implementing ADA, OSHA and general safety compliance standards
  • Experience in pool operations, a plus. Willing to obtain Certified Pool Operator certificate within 90 days of employment required.
  • Ability to use tools, equipment and chemicals in prescribed manner; read labels and instructions.
  • Proficiency in the safe and proper use of power equipment and tools, heavy and light machinery, and building materials.
  • Skills in supervision and project management.
  • Current license to drive with records that meet YMCA standards.
  • Understands the mission of the YMCA.

Essential Functions

  • Provides overall facility maintenance, including planning, developing, and performing preventative maintenance to the Five Points Branch and Wellness Center Branch. This includes performing mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, pool operations and boiler systems work as well as using general maintenance and janitorial techniques and using hand and power tools.
  • Walks entire building at multiple branches and inspects each one on a daily basis. Walks around outside each building and inspects all land considered YMCA property.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs in a timely, cost-effective manner. This includes but is not limited to: painting; fixing plumbing issues in bathrooms and locker rooms; repairing equipment, repairing or operating mechanic devices and handling chemicals.
  • Support Aquatics department with any mechanical or safety issues affecting pool operatins including but not limited to, routine inspections of pool equipment including filters, pumps, heaters and chemical feeders.
  • Operates all mechanical systems in accordance to manufacturer specification and policies and procedures of the YMCA.
  • Available to respond to facility-related emergencies as needed including night and weekends.
  • Completes repair work and projects in a timely manner.
  • Works with outside agencies such as fire, health, building depts., etc. to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations related to facilities and grounds.
  • Participates with other members of management in the YMCA’s fundraising campaign.
  • Advises management on maintenance issues and projects as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities or Branch Director of the Gateway Family YMCA Association.
