What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatics Director - Northwest position at YMCA of Silicon Valley?
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Aquatics Director is responsible for managing staff, program quality, planning and implementing aquatics programs, and actively participates in annual campaign.
SALARY RANGE: $78,500.00 - $80,000.00/year
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for recruiting, training, coaching and leading lifeguards; ensure staff maintain all required certifications.
- Administrative duties include staff development (recruitment, selection, scheduling, training, supervision, etc.)
- Manage and implement aquatics programming for the branch; this includes swim lessons, volunteer aquatics programs, lap swimming, swim teams, etc.
- Assist with Branch events and the Annual Giving Campaign.
- Build and maintain close and positive relationships with participants and parents.
- Follow all policies and procedures in the Y Aquatic's SOP Manual created and or approved by the Association.
- Maintain a safe environment at all times.
- Attend training and meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The physical demands of the position include:
- Visual and auditory ability to observe and to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
- Ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Ability to climb, push, and pull. Standing on the pool deck.
- Ability to lift and carry objects up to 20 pounds.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree or 1 year of aquatic experience.
- Ability to effectively interact with participants, parents, and staff.
- Available on weekends and evenings as needed.
- Possess the following certifications at the time of hire:
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer or accredited equivalent.
- Emergency Oxygen Administration.
- Standard First Aid.
- Lifeguard certification.
- YMCA Swim Instructor certification preferred.
- Possess or obtain within 6 months of hire the following trainings:
- American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
- YMCA Swim Instructor certification.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor.
- YMCA Swim Lesson Trainer.
- Good written and verbal communication skills along with good organizational skills.
- Ability to learn and work in software programs.
