What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Ernst Ranch Counselor - YMCA Camp Ernst position at YMCA of Greater Cincinnati?
Key Responsibilities:
- Reside with campers and staff, model positive behavior, set expectations and routines, maintain a clean living space, and actively supervise camper health, hygiene, and safety.
- Foster individual growth by guiding campers through daily routines, problem-solving, and program participation, while encouraging emotional, physical, and character development.
- Oversee camper well-being (hydration, hygiene, rest) and report concerns.
- Supervise and instruct campers in horse care and riding following CHA standards; maintain ranch cleanliness and uphold all safety and animal care guidelines. Ensure health and safety of horses through daily care, grooming, feeding, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Plan and implement cabin/unit activities, lead scheduled camp programs, and support camper engagement through group building, mail distribution, and paperwork completion.
- Adhere to all YMCA rules, ACA standards, emergency procedures, and child abuse prevention policies, while reporting violations and/or concerns.
- Demonstrate professionalism, respect, and cultural humility; work well with diverse campers and staff and serve as a positive influence at all times.
- Work cooperatively with co-counselors, unit leaders, and admin staff; report camper or staff issues and assist with problem resolution
- Attend staff training and meetings, assist with check-in/check-out, care for camp property, and fulfill additional duties to ensure smooth operations.
- Care for shared program equipment, report maintenance needs, and help keep camp activity areas organized and functional.
- Adhere to established association standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED.
- Ability to follow CHA and ACA standards, as related to equestrian program to maintain high level of safety.
- Proven experience in all aspects of horse care including riding skills, general medical care, equipment and tack care and repair
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
