Duties
- Prepare a variety of sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese-inspired dishes with meticulous attention to detail
- Maintain the highest standards of food safety, sanitation, and hygiene in all kitchen operations
- Select fresh ingredients and ensure proper storage to preserve quality and flavor
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to coordinate service times and manage workflow efficiently
- Educate team members on sushi preparation techniques and presentation standards
- Assist in menu development by suggesting innovative sushi creations and seasonal specials
- Uphold cleanliness standards by regularly cleaning workstations, tools, and equipment
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Sushi Chef or similar role in a professional kitchen setting
- Strong understanding of Japanese cuisine, sushi techniques, and ingredient handling
- Certification in food safety and sanitation practices (e.g., ServSafe or equivalent)
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent knife skills and attention to detail in food presentation
- Knowledge of health regulations related to food preparation and storage
- Technical proficiency with kitchen tools and productivity software for inventory management or scheduling purposes
- Experience with online training platforms or online instruction is a plus for ongoing skill development
- First aid and CPR certification are desirable but not mandatory
- Prior teaching experience with culinary students or young aspiring chefs is advantageous
