Assistant Manager–Ice Cream & Snack Shop

Yabba's Wacky Snack Shack
Foley, AL Full Time
POSTED ON 7/27/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/23/2026

Yabba's is a joy-forward snack shop in Foley — candy, ice cream, popcorn, fudge, and food, served in a place that's meant to feel lighter and warmer than the world outside. We're small, we're deliberate, and we're building something worth building.

We're hiring an Assistant Manager. Before you decide whether to apply, we want you to know what this job actually is — and what it isn't. If any of the following doesn't fit, this isn't the right place. If all of it fits, we'd love to hear from you.

Who We Are, Honestly

Yabba's is not a corporate chain. There is no franchise handbook and no cookie-cutter management style. We are a small independent business that treats its team as builders, not staff. Everyone above cashier is expected to think about the work, bring ideas, take feedback seriously, and help shape what Yabba's becomes.

This is described in our workforce ethos, which is called the Builder's Code. If you make it to the second interview, you'll read it in full. The short version:

Think like it's yours. Build like it will be.

What the Role Actually Is

The Assistant Manager is the daily operational leader of the store. That means:

  • Running shifts on your own — no phone calls to the owner every hour.
  • Coaching a small team of Shift Leads directly, in the moment, without softening.
  • Holding standards consistently, including with people you like.
  • Managing labor cost, cleanliness, guest experience, and cash handling to real, measured targets.
  • Participating in weekly and monthly leadership rhythms — scorecards, KPI reviews, coaching cycles.
  • Contributing to what Yabba's becomes — starting with our apparel line, growing from there.

This is a leadership role, not a shift supervisor role. You will be trusted with real responsibility, held to real standards, and evaluated on real outcomes.

What We're Looking For

Age, background, and industry don't decide fit here. Engagement does. We are hiring for the person, not the resume. That said, here is what we are actually looking for:

Someone who thinks about their work while they do it. Who asks why things happen. Who can walk through their reasoning without needing to be right.

Someone who brings ideas without being asked. Who fixes small things before they become big things. Who sees possibilities where other people see only problems.

Someone who can take correction without getting defensive — and give correction without avoiding it. Both directions matter. This is the single most important trait for this role.

Someone who owns their own development. Who doesn't wait to be taught. Who tracks their own growth and knows what they are working on.

Someone who understands that kindness and standards are the same thing here, not opposites. Who protects the feel of the store the same way they protect labor cost and cleanliness.

Someone who wants a real career, not just a job. Who wants to grow — in skill, in responsibility, in pay — over years, not months.

What We Offer

  • $14/hour base pay, plus tip pool participation.
  • $100 monthly KPI bonus when performance targets are met.
  • $5 shift meals and 10% discount for family and friends.
  • Unlimited free ice cream (yes, really).
  • Real coaching, real feedback, and honest conversations about where you stand.
  • A voice in what the business becomes, starting with our team-owned apparel line.
  • A workplace where kindness and honesty are not opposites — they're the same thing.

We are honest that this pay does not yet reflect a full professional career. Our compensation trajectory trends upward as the business grows, and we are committed to that direction. If you are looking for corporate-scale pay today, this is not that role. If you are looking to grow with a small business that is serious about becoming one, this is.

What We Ask

  • Weekend availability. This is a non-negotiable — the AM covers weekends.
  • Evening availability. Some closing shifts are part of the role.
  • Consistent attendance and reliable communication.
  • Willingness to be corrected and to correct others — with respect, and without avoidance.
  • Commitment to the standards of the role and the culture of the business.

Who Probably Shouldn't Apply

We would rather be upfront than waste your time. This role is likely not for you if:

  • You want to be told exactly what to do at every step.
  • You get defensive when someone tells you you got something wrong.
  • You avoid hard conversations.
  • You see the job as a task list, not a craft.
  • You want a manager title without the accountability that comes with it.
  • You are looking for a job, not a place to build something.

None of that makes you a bad person or a bad worker. It just means this specific role isn't the fit, and we would rather both of us know that now.

Our Hiring Process

We take hiring seriously here. Our process has three parts:

  • A 30-minute screening conversation to confirm basic fit.
  • A 60–75 minute working interview at the store, including a real scenario exercise where we walk through how you think through a busy shift.
  • A final conversation where you read our Builder's Code (a document we'll send you) in advance and come prepared to react to it.

The process takes real time on both sides. That is intentional. This seat matters, and we would rather hire slowly for the right person than quickly for the wrong one.

Apply through this listing with a resume and a short note — three or four sentences is fine — telling us why this role sounds like a fit for you. We read the notes. Generic applications with no note are not competitive.
