Duties
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood sampling using aseptic technique to ensure specimen quality and patient safety
- Collect, process, label, and handle specimens accurately following laboratory protocols and procedures
- Obtain vital signs and assess patient physiology to ensure proper preparation for testing
- Maintain patient comfort and provide excellent customer service during specimen collection, demonstrating empathy and professionalism
- Use Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems for precise data entry and documentation of procedures
- Follow infection control guidelines, including proper specimen handling and adherence to laboratory safety standards
- Assist with specimen processing, storage, and transportation within the laboratory setting while managing heavy lifting when necessary
Skills
- Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, techniques, and medical terminology relevant to phlebotomy and specimen handling
- Proven experience in clinical laboratory work, including venipuncture, blood sampling, and specimen processing
- Excellent patient service skills with the ability to care for diverse populations such as pediatrics and geriatrics
- Familiarity with hospital environments, EMR/EHR systems, and data entry protocols for accurate record keeping
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology to locate veins effectively during venipuncture
- Ability to perform basic life support (BLS) certifications such as CPR confidently in emergency situations
- Physical stamina for tasks involving standing for extended periods, heavy lifting, and maintaining aseptic techniques during procedures
