Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection using aseptic techniques to ensure specimen integrity
- Prepare and process specimens accurately for laboratory testing, adhering to established protocols
- Assist patients of all ages, including pediatrics and geriatrics, with care, comfort, and professionalism during specimen collection
- Maintain detailed documentation of procedures, including data entry into Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems
- Monitor vital signs when necessary and assess patient physiology to ensure safe collection practices
- Follow laboratory procedures meticulously, including specimen handling, labeling, storage, and transportation
- Uphold patient care standards by demonstrating excellent customer service skills and maintaining a compassionate approach throughout all interactions
Requirements
- Prior experience in medical laboratory work or clinical setting preferred; strong laboratory techniques knowledge required
- Certification or training in phlebotomy, with proficiency in venipuncture and blood sampling techniques
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and aseptic procedures essential for safe specimen collection
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary and stand or walk for extended periods during shifts
- Basic life support (BLS) certification such as CPR is required; familiarity with hospital environments is advantageous
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for data entry and specimen tracking
- Excellent patient service skills with a focus on care for diverse populations including pediatrics and geriatrics
