Teacher Associate - St Pius X Elementary School

Xavier Catholic Schools is looking for a Teaching Assistant for St Pius X Elementary School! This is a full-time position for the 2026-2027 school year.

The Teacher Associate is expected to model and promote the mission of forming disciples unafraid to follow Jesus Christ, and fosters a Christ-centered, respectful, and ethical work environment that upholds Catholic identity through every aspect of their leadership and decision making.

Position Summary: A Teacher’s Associate is responsible for the planning, organizing and implementing of an appropriate instructional program in a preschool, elementary, or secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their potential.

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities: 

1. Foster the Christian uniqueness of the learning community
2. Maintain required trainings as required by the State of Iowa, Archdiocese, and local site
3. Support the learning center environment
4. Communicate effectively with classroom teacher(s) and administration
5. Help with appropriate daily activities for children
6. Establish and maintain a safe and healthy nurturing environment for children
7. Supervise children for safety
8. Keep the learning environment clean and orderly by picking up learning materials, wiping tables and chairs, etc.
9. Attend staff meetings, school programs, and in-service trainings as requested
10. Maintain confidentiality with work-related matters
11. Promote positive public relations through interactions with the community
12. Work collaboratively with other members of the school
13. Uphold, support, and promote all school policies and procedures
14. Accept and provide effective supervision, assignments, change and correction
15. These duties are not all-inclusive.  Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience: 

1. High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
2. Practicing Catholic preferred

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists.  Lifts and moves items up to 20 pounds. 

Working Environment: 

Work is performed in a school and outdoor setting.  Employees may be required to attend an occasional evening meeting and do extensive close computer work.
