Our client is seeking a Machinist (Conventional Mills & Lathes) for an excellent on-site position located in the Rome, GA area. This position will be responsible for setting up and running conventional mills and lathes to machine one-off precision steel components.
Responsibilities
- Review prints, engineering drawings, and written specs to plan each unique repair or machining job.
- Produce drawings or sketches of industrial parts when existing documentation is incomplete.
- Check dimensions throughout the job with micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Inspect completed pieces against the required specifications before release.
- Weld attachments or features when needed to support the machining sequence.
- Perform routine machine care and troubleshoot basic equipment issues.
- Coordinate with shop teammates to improve workflow and keep safety practices consistent.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5 years operating conventional (non-CNC) mills and lathes.
- Skilled with precision measuring instruments used to hold tight dimensional accuracy.
- Able to interpret and create blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Knows how to choose and set up tooling for different machining operations.
- Familiar with common metalworking power tools.
- Solid basic shop math for layouts, calculations, and measurements.
- Foundational welding, mechanical aptitude, and forklift capability.
Salary : $25 - $45
