The Director of Operations is a strategic and systems-oriented leader responsible for overseeing the internal infrastructure, risk management, and operational efficiency of Wu Yee Children's Services. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, you will ensure that the organization's physical environments, facilities and administrative systems are robust, compliant, and aligned with our mission to serve the San Francisco community. This role requires a sophisticated blend of leadership, vendor management expertise, and data-driven decision-making to optimize daily functioning and foster agency-wide productivity.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Supervision: Provide direction, guidance, and support to the Operations team, including the Facilities Operations Project Manager, Operations Coordinator, and Office Manager.
  • Facilities Maintenance Vendor Management: Oversee the relationship with a primary consolidated facilities vendor providing janitorial, maintenance, and security services across all agency sites to ensure high-quality delivery and cost-effectiveness.
  • Operational Strategy: Lead the development and implementation of agency-wide operational policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to streamline workflows and dismantle departmental silos.
  • Facilities & Asset Oversight: Oversee the maintenance, security, and safety of multiple program sites; manage lease agreements, evaluate long-term facility needs, and ensure all environments meet Title 22 licensing and Head Start standards.
  • Risk Management & Compliance: Identify and mitigate operational risks; oversee agency commercial insurance policies and renewals, and ensure adherence to local, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Financial Oversight: Manage the operations budget, forecast operational needs, and analyze financial reports to identify cost-saving opportunities and optimize resource allocation.
  • Strategic Project Collaboration: Partner with the Operations Project Manager and internal department heads (IT, HR, Programs) to ensure critical infrastructure projects, such as the 2026 administrative office relocation, integrate seamlessly with daily operations.


Required Knowledge, Experience & Skills

  • Experience: 7-10 years of progressive experience in operations management, facilities management, or nonprofit leadership, with a proven track record of managing multi-site facilities and diverse teams.
  • Education: Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Vendor Expertise: Masterful ability to manage external contractors, negotiate complex service contracts, and hold partners accountable to performance metrics. Experience with government contracts and compliance preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in office productivity suites, operational management tools and project software like Asana, Zendesk, Office 365, and Google Workspace.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of facilities management, licensing requirements (Title 22, ADA), and building/fire codes in an urban environment.
  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills to interface effectively with senior management, staff, and external stakeholders.

Physical and Cognitive Demands

  • Communication: Must be able to effectively negotiate with vendors and exchange complex information with diverse internal stakeholders.
  • Physical Activity: Frequently required to travel between program sites in San Francisco; must be able to move through active construction or renovation sites and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision/Sensory: Must be able to perceive and analyze financial data and observe environmental safety and project quality at field sites.
  • Environment: Ability to function effectively in environments ranging from professional offices to active childcare centers and outdoor zones.
  • Cognition: Regularly required to identify, analyze, and solve complex logistical and financial problems under tight deadlines.


Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary $113,040 - $192,170, exempt. The final salary offer will be determined after reviewing relevant factors, including but not limited to skill sets, relevant experience, internal equity, and other business and organizational needs.
