What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Supervisor position at Wiwynn International Corporation?
The Production Supervisor leads a team of assemblers, leads, and inspectors to safely produce high-quality electronic components and subassemblies in a manual, labor-intensive environment. This role plans daily workloads, balances lines, enforces ESD/quality standards, removes bottlenecks, and drives continuous improvement to meet output, cost, and delivery targets.
Key Responsibilities:
People Leadership & Daily Management
· Lead, coach, and schedule a team of [40–60] production associates across manual assembly, team leads, testing, and visual inspection.
· Conduct daily start-up meetings (safety, quality alerts, build plan, headcount), assign work, and rebalance stations to hit takt/time goals.
· Train cross-functional skills (e.g., IPC-A-610 workmanship, ESD handling, hand tools, and best practices); maintain skills matrix.
· Monitor attendance, performance, and behavior; provide feedback, recognition, and corrective actions where needed.
· Safety & Compliance
· Enforce OSHA, ESD controls (ANSI/ESD S20.20), PPE, lockout/tagout, and ergonomic best practices.
· Lead incident response, near-miss reporting, and weekly safety audits; drive corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
Quality Assurance
· Ensure adherence to work instructions, BOMs, drawings, IPC-A-610/620 workmanship standards, and customer/regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 9001).
· Perform first-article checks, in-process audits, and final visual inspections; escalate non-conformances and lead root-cause analysis (5 Whys, Ishikawa).
· Contain defects, coordinate rework, and verify effectiveness of corrective actions; track FPY and DPPM.
Production Planning & Execution
· Convert daily/weekly build plans to station-level assignments; maintain WIP flow and minimize changeover losses in manual lines.
· Ensure materials availability (kanban, kitting, point-of-use), tool readiness (calibration, tip condition), and workstation 5S.
· Track and report output vs. plan, takt adherence, labor utilization, and downtime; remove constraints proactively.
Continuous Improvement (Lean)
· Apply Lean methods for manual processes: 5S, standardized work, visual management, line balancing, motion/waste reduction.
· Lead kaizen events focused on ergonomic improvements, setup reduction, and defect prevention (poka-yoke).
· Maintain and improve work instructions, visual aids, and training materials.
Documentation & Systems
· Record production data in MES/ERP (e.g., work orders, scrap, rework, labor booking); ensure lot traceability and device history records.
· Maintain training records, skill certifications, inspection logs, and ESD audit results.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Strong knowledge of manual assembly, visual inspection, and ESD handling.
· Familiarity with IPC-A-610 (and/or IPC-J-STD-001) standards; certification is a plus.
· Experience with Lean/5S, standard work, basic root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
· Proficiency with production systems (MES/ERP), basic spreadsheet/reporting skills, and shop-floor documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
· IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 Certified Specialist/Trainer.
· Experience in high-mix/low-volume environments or NPI ramps.
· Knowledge of test processes (ICT/functional test), torque drivers, and precision hand tools.
· ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949 familiarity; CAPA and internal audit experience.
· Bilingual (e.g., English/Spanish) in multicultural shop-floor settings.
Core Competencies:
· Team leadership & coaching in a hands-on environment
· Attention to detail and workmanship quality
· Problem solving & decision-making under time pressure
· Communication (clear, respectful, and timely)
· Planning, prioritization, and line balancing
· Safety mindset and accountability
Physical & Work Environment Requirements:
· Stand, walk, and perform fine motor tasks for extended periods; lift up to 30–40 lbs occasionally.
· Frequent use of microscopes, tweezers, soldering irons, torque tools, and small fixtures.
· Work in ESD-controlled production areas.
· PPE as required (ESD smocks/wrist straps, safety glasses, gloves).
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
· Safety: TRIR, near-misses, audit scores
· Quality: FPY, DPPM, rework/scrap %, audit pass rate
· Delivery: Schedule adherence/OTD, hours per unit, WIP days
· Productivity: Labor utilization, takt attainment, line balance efficiency
· Engagement: Training completion, cross-skill coverage, turnover/absenteeism
