What are the responsibilities and job description for the AR/Medical Biller position at Wisconsin Diagnostic Laboratories?
Responsible for billing and follow-up of patient and client accounts based on working knowledge of regulations governing CPT codes, diagnosis codes, Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and commercial insurance guidelines. Researches and resolves pending and unpaid laboratory claims to resolution.
Responsibilities:
1. Accurately interprets remittance advices regarding payments, adjustments and patient responsibility ensuring payment amounts and patient billing are accurate.
2. Reviews Electronic Fund Transfers (EFTs) / insurance payments where applicable to ensure money is posted to correct system.
3. Inputs patient, insurance, and claim information into billing systems.
4. Under the direction of Billing leadership, accurately works assigned work queues on billing systems, gathering missing or incomplete billing information when needed.
5. Responsible for claims follow-up. Thoroughly researches reasons for denial, short payments, overpayments, recoupments, and/or refund requests to resolution.
6. Professionally answers incoming phone calls (i.e. patients, clients, payers) providing accurate information regarding outstanding bill/invoice/claim or other reason for inquiry.
7. Takes patient/client payments over the phone where applicable. Communicates to customers if additional information or research time is required and follows up within an acceptable timeframe.
8. Has working knowledge of daily and payment reconciliation process. Batches incoming mail and handles patient/client/payer correspondence.
9. Actively participates in training as needed.
Qualifications:
1. High School diploma.
2. A minimum of one year insurance billing experience required; Four years insurance billing experience preferred.
3. Working knowledge of medical billing practices such as contractual adjustments and cash posting is preferred.
4. Ability to independently resolve problems successfully on the phone with clients, patients and internal departments.
5. Working knowledge of Epic desirable.
6. Training expertise and experience preferred.
