The Ipswich Public Schools are seeking an energetic and dynamic individual with a passion for providing engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction to students in preschool through grade five. Candidates should be enthusiastic about collaborative teaching opportunities, including our integrated preschool art and music classes, and should be comfortable supporting theatre arts curriculum and performance experiences. A background in the study and performance of at least one musical instrument is expected.
The successful candidate will be a collaborative team player who works effectively with faculty, parents, community organizations, and Fine Arts staff, including instrumental specialists. Strong communication skills, flexibility, creativity, and a student centered approach are essential.
Experience teaching elementary music is preferred; however, all qualified candidates will be considered.
Duties Include:
- Effectively plan and teach weekly 40 minute general music classes for students in preschool through grade five.
- Demonstrate familiarity with instructional approaches including Conversational Solfege, Orff Schulwerk, and Gordon Music Learning Theory.
- Teach and explore the fundamentals of music literacy, music history, movement, singing, improvisation, and composition.
- Utilize available classroom resources, including Boomwhackers and ukuleles, to enhance and enrich music instruction.
- Teach two weekly 40 minute chorus rehearsals, including one fourth grade chorus and one fifth grade chorus.
- Collaborate with Fine Arts faculty and school staff on large group performances and school productions held both during the school day and in the evening.
- Foster an inclusive and engaging classroom environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and a lifelong appreciation for music and the arts.
