  • Verify the room meets hotel cleanliness and presentation standards.
  • Check the bathroom, bedroom, floors, furniture, windows, mirrors, and high-touch areas.
  • Confirm all amenities and supplies are properly stocked.
  • Check that appliances, lights, TV, telephone, HVAC, refrigerator, and plumbing are functioning properly.
  • Look for maintenance issues, damage, stains, odors, or safety concerns.

2. Communication

  • Communicate with the Front Desk throughout the shift regarding room status.
  • Immediately notify Front Desk Management of rooms that are delayed or cannot be released.
  • Clearly communicate which rooms are clean, inspected, out of order, or awaiting maintenance.
  • Do not assume Front Desk knows a room is ready—the status must be communicated.

3. Room Status Accuracy

  • Do not mark a room Ready/Inspected unless it has actually been inspected.
  • Do not leave completed rooms sitting without notifying the Front Desk.
  • Keep the room-status system/log updated throughout the shift.
  • Prioritize rooms needed for incoming arrivals, especially early arrivals and sold-out/peak periods.

4. Housekeeping Follow-Up

  • Return rooms to the housekeeper when corrections are needed.
  • Reinspect corrected rooms before releasing them.
  • Monitor housekeeping progress and address rooms that are taking longer than expected.

5. Maintenance & Safety

  • Report maintenance issues immediately.
  • Document significant room deficiencies.
  • Never release a room with a condition that could affect guest safety, comfort, or the hotel’s ability to sell the room.

6. Professional Expectations

  • Remain on the housekeeping floor/assigned area and actively inspect rooms rather than waiting for rooms to be brought to you.
  • Maintain professional communication with housekeeping and Front Desk.
  • Be proactive, organized, and aware of the hotel’s arrival needs.
  • The inspector is responsible for ensuring Front Desk receives accurate and timely room-status information.

Bottom line: A Guest Room Inspector’s responsibility is not just to check cleanliness. They are responsible for quality control, accurate room status, timely communication, and making sure rooms are genuinely ready for guests before Front Desk releases them.
