WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-driven Marine Safety Technician to manage the inspection, hydro-testing, filling, and servicing of CO2/Nitrogen cylinders used in inflatable liferafts and rescue boats. This role is critical to ensuring life-saving equipment performs flawlessly in emergency situations.
The ideal candidate has experience working with high-pressure systems, strong mechanical aptitude, and a disciplined approach to regulatory compliance including SOLAS, USCG, OSHA, and DOT standards.
Key Responsibilities
Cylinder Inspection, Testing & Filling
- Inspect, test, and refill high-pressure CO2/Nitrogen cylinders according to OEM and regulatory standards.
- Perform hydrostatic testing in compliance with DOT requirements.
- Conduct valve servicing, regulator inspections, and inflation head evaluations.
- Weigh cylinders using calibrated scales and verify gas charge accuracy using a calculator.
- Perform final pressure checks and confirm proper function of buoyancy chamber inflation systems.
- Identify and remove non-conforming or damaged cylinders from service.
Marine Safety Equipment Servicing
- Dismount, inspect, recharge, and reinstall life raft inflation systems.
- Service safety valves, activation mechanisms, and associated hardware.
- Assist in testing, inspection, and repacking of inflatable liferafts and marine safety equipment.
- Ensure all serviced equipment meets SOLAS and USCG compliance standards prior to release.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Adhere strictly to OSHA, DOT, SOLAS, and USCG regulations related to high-pressure gas systems.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant CO2 filling and hydro-testing area.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Follow established safety protocols for handling pressurized gases and heavy cylinders.
Documentation & Quality Control
- Maintain accurate records of hydro-tests, fill weights, pressure readings, and inspection results.
- Complete required compliance documentation for marine safety certification.
- Ensure cylinders are properly labeled, tagged, and stored for distribution.
- Monitor cylinder inventory levels and notify management when restocking is required.
- Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or irregularities immediately.
Qualifications & Skills
- 1–2 years of experience with high-pressure systems, marine safety equipment, or industrial gas handling preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
- Proficiency in basic math calculations and use of a calculator to verify cylinder weight accuracy.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to follow strict regulatory protocols.
- Ability to lift and move cylinders up to 75 lbs.
- Familiarity with SOLAS, USCG, OSHA, or DOT compliance standards is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently in a structured, safety-sensitive environment.
Working Conditions
- Work performed primarily indoors in a CO2 filling and hydro-testing room.
- Exposure to high-pressure gases and industrial equipment.
- Requires prolonged standing, lifting, and repetitive motions throughout the shift.
- Mandatory use of PPE when handling cylinders and servicing equipment.
