What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early Childhood Paraprofessionals position at Windham Northeast Supervisory Union?
WNESU is seeking experienced Early Childhood Paraprofessionals for our high-quality, well-supported, public preschool classrooms.
Preferred applicants for this position will have two years of college level education, preferably in the area of early childhood or elementary education, or completed twenty-one (21) college credit hours with an education focus.

Position Classification: Support Staff Union
FLSA Classification: Non-exempt
QUALIFICATIONS: Meets at least one (1) of the following qualifications:
At least a Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder Level Three (3)
Certificate; or
At least an associate degree from an accredited college with a major or concentration in Early Childhood, Child or Human Development, Elementary Education, or Child and Family Services and at least twelve (12) months experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger; or
At least a Certificate of Completion from the Registered Child Care Apprenticeship Program; or
At least a Child Care Certificate from the Community College of Vermont and at least twelve (12) months experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger; or
At least successful completion of twenty-one (21) college credits with an early childhood or school age focus and at least twelve (12) months experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger.
Ability to communicate effectively, follow directions, and establish positive rapport with children and teachers.
Demonstrated ability to assess crisis situations and effectively respond to defuse or mitigate such situations.
Such alternatives as the Board may find appropriate.
REPORTS TO: Early Education Program Principal
SUPERVISED BY: Early Education Teacher
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff.
Assist the certified staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
Implement behavior management techniques (reinforcing appropriate behavior in accordance with the teacher’s plan, etc.)
Serve as the chief source of information and help to any guest teacher assigned in the absence of the regular certified staff.
Alert the certified staff to any problem or special information about an individual student.
Perform assigned supervision of students. Primary concern during supervision is to keep children:
safe- physically and emotionally
following rules
developing problem solving skills and independence
communicating with adults regarding their interactions at school
Attends seminars, trainings, and informational meetings relating to early education as requested, including completing fifteen (15) hours of annual professional development as required by 7.4.2 of the Vermont child care licensing regulations.
Meets daily with an Early Education Teacher to assure coordination and communication regarding children in the program.
Enters data into the online observational assessment system.
Demonstrates flexibility and versatility in meeting program and child/family needs.
Executes responsibilities efficiently and in an organized manner.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Early Education Teacher.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Refer to Master Agreement
EVALUATION: Performance evaluated and goals set annually by the Early Education Program Principal in accordance with responsibilities outlined above.
