Position Summary
The Accounting Associate – Balancing I is responsible for daily reconciliations of general ledger to include cash, Fed, deposits, loans, credit cards, secondary market lending, deferred comp, bond portfolio, internal checking accounts, payroll, and preparing journal entries for general ledger. This position ensures the accuracy of financial records by comparing transactions to supporting documentation and resolving any discrepancies. The Accounting Associate – Balancing I resolves any differences found during the reconciliation process, ensuring that all transactions are correctly recorded and matched. This position reports to the Accounting Manager and provides excellent service and support to team members and customers while demonstrating the Company’s values and supporting the mission.

Position Duties And Responsibilities
- Responsible for daily reconciliations of general ledger to include cash, Fed, deposits, loans, credit cards, secondary market lending, deferred comp, bond portfolio, internal checking accounts, payroll, and preparing journal entries for general ledger. Scan all balancing into the system daily.
- Ensure the accuracy of financial records by comparing transactions to supporting documentation and resolving any discrepancies
- Report any outages to head tellers, audit, and Accounting Manager
- Resolve any differences found during the reconciliation process, ensuring that all transactions are correctly recorded and matched
- Assist tellers with corrections of outages and general balancing questions
- Process and mail all foreign checks to our collection company for payment
- Maintain a ledger of all outstanding checks and status
- Assist offices with questions regarding reconciliation items
- Serve as the point of contact with any questions or issues relating to reconciliation
- Cross train with all members of the accounting department to develop additional knowledge and skills
- Assist with other balancing and projects as assigned
- Maintain compliance with Company’s accounting policies and procedures
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency in the reconciliation process
- Adhere to compliance with all federal bank regulations and laws, including those for consumer protection and the Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering Program
- Attend training as requested
- Perform other duties as assigned
- High school diploma or GED
- 1 year of relevant accounting experience preferred
- Banking experience preferred
- Familiar with daily reconciliation functions and monthly reconciliation of checking accounts
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
- Basic Excel experience
- Ability to perform numerical detail work with speed and accuracy
- Possess general understanding of balance sheets and income statements
- Must be able to learn accounting software systems
- Must possess excellent organization and communication skills as well as the ability to interact in a helpful and professional manner
- High critical thinking and analytical skills required
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- High standards for integrity, honesty, professionalism, and work ethic
