Lead on Duty (LoD)
Location: Madison, WI
Status: Hourly non-exempt, represented
Supervision: Indirect supervisory responsibility during scheduled shift

About the Role: As a Lead on Duty (LoD), you will have the opportunity to ensure store security, smooth store operations, and a positive shopping experience for guests. You will collaborate with your coworkers to provide the highest level of service possible to Willy Street Co-ops internal and external customers. You will report and document any shift issues to management.

You're familiar with grocery store operations and like to provide guidance and direction to coworkers to make sure things run smoothly. What You'll Do: You will coordinate completion of tasks to ensure that displays and shelves are fully stocked, that the store is maintained in good condition, and that retail and work areas are maintained in clean, safe, and orderly condition. You will delegate tasks to store staff or complete them yourself, including the following:

Ensure that the store opens and closes on time

Maintain floor presence to ensure efficient and friendly customer service; troubleshoot customer questions

Ensure all displays are fully stocked, faced and rotated to ensure freshness

Observe the status of each department and report discrepancies, out-of-stocks, performance problems or other relevant conditions to management
-
Monitor all staff and provide guidance and direction as required
-
Ensure coverage in instances of staffing gaps
-
Coordinate and cover department breaks
-
Inform Logistics team of inaccurate shelf labels or other logistics related concerns
-
Oversee staff adherence to established safety procedures
-
Uphold all policies and procedures
-
Keep the store in clean, orderly condition during shift; eliminate hazardous conditions immediately

Maintain an authoritative presence; attempt to deter theft or any criminal activity
-
Follow appropriate closing procedures and ensure that the store is locked and secure for the night

Ensure consistent handling of emergencies in accordance with established procedures

Greet and offer assistance to customers

Treat people fairly, consistently and with respect

Know product locations in order to assist customers in finding what they need

Abide by all co-op policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and other company documents

Participate in required training and meetings

Maintain a positive attitude and collaborative spirit

Answer phones as necessary

Perform all other duties as assigned by a Supervisor

Work Environment: Fast paced retail environment with food service equipment and coolers and in cold/hot working conditions (i.e. cooler or near heated surfaces). Other high to moderate noise including but not limited to computers, cash registers, paging, telephones, music and human voices.
