Duties include but are not limited to: • Providing the best possible health care to student-athletes; promoting a team approach, enhancing communication with all sports, patients, coaches, and physicians. • Designing, implementing, and conducting all continuing education programs for the Sports Medicine staff including CPR, OSHA, Adult Professional Rescuer, and Sports Safety Training certification courses, and conducting at least 3 BOC CEU in-service meetings per semester. • Maintaining university resources/equipment including AEDs, vehicles, athletic library resources, etc. • Reviewing medical transcriptions for accuracy; coordinating the documentation of clearances; completing follow-up evaluations; and coordinating final reviews with physicians and staff. Job Description: Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. Experience working in a college/university Sports Medicine program. Experience working with a variety of student-athletes in a variety of sports. BOC (Board of Certification) Certified. Eligible for licensure as an athletic trainer in the State of Virginia. CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer for the Healthcare Provider certification or equivalent. Computer skills and experience utilizing an electronic medical records system. Demonstrated attention to detail and strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree. Post-BOC certification professional working experience. Red Cross Professional Rescuer and Community First Aid Instructor. Conditions of Employment: Hours are dictated by athletic schedule, which will require additional hours beyond the typical work week; will be necessary to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Team travel responsibilities throughout the entire year with overnight, weekday, and weekend travel. A valid driver’s license is required as is two years of driving experience. Must meet the physical requirements of the position and must be able to drive a van. Will be exposed to bloodborne and airborne pathogens and must follow OSHA guidelines. Will be exposed to a range of inside and outside environmental conditions. This is a restricted position subject to the continued availability of funding. Essential Designation: No Job Duties: 70% - Healthcare: Direct and coordinate the health care for the student-athletes of sports assigned by the Dir. of Medical Services/Chief Medical Officer. In accordance with the identified Best Practices within the athletic training profession and the NCAA Sports Medicine handbook, provide the best possible health care to the student-athletes within the limits of clinical abilities, continue to expand and extend clinical skills and responsibilities and safeguard all athletes’ health and well being. Foster positive relationships and enhance communication with all sports, patients, coaches, and physicians. On a daily basis, work to increase operational efficiency while maximizing the resources of the athletic training program. Promote a “team approach” to health care, utilizing all members of the Sports Medicine staff. Maintain regular and routine contact with the coaches of sports for which you are assigned as the contact point. Clinical responsibilities during the summer sessions. 15% - Educational Programming: Assist with CPR and Adult or Professional Rescuer certification courses for the athletic staff, students, and coaches. Design, implement, and conduct all continuing education programs for the Sports Medicine staff: Organize or conduct at least three BOC CEU in-service meetings per semester. Develop innovative and exciting educational opportunities for staff and students. Continue to investigate educational opportunities within the local community. Maintenance of sports medicine library in athletic training room: Insure all books, tapes, and journals are stored and maintained in a proper and orderly manner. Distribute appropriate reading articles and materials to coaches. Develop appropriate resource articles concerning various injuries, their treatment and rehabilitation. 15% - Administrative Duties: IT: Support and assist in coordinating all efforts to improve and update computer and technology use within the athletic training program. Liaison to campus Information Technology and Communications Offices., Work with IT to interface banner and Presagia to decrease data entry. Liaison to Presagia: Work with our electronic medical records company to coordinate upgrades, submit problems and create forms/documents as needed. Website and social media: Maintain the Sports Medicine website as well as the division's Facebook and Twitter accounts. Alumni Relations/Fundraising: Assist with Sports Medicine Outreach Programs. Assist with alumni relations and fundraising activities for Sports Medicine Regarding athletic training programs. Maintain the Exposure Control Plan for the Division of Sports Medicine. Conduct OSHA training annually for all athletic training staff and athletic training aides. Coordinate and oversee CPR/First Aid training for the coaches and athletic training staff. Maintain all AEDs, completing monthly service checks of the AEDs. Facilities management for Kaplan Arena athletic training facility:• Develop and direct a schedule for routine maintenance for all rehabilitation and exercise equipment and therapeutic modalities. Develop innovative additions, renovations, and suggestions to make the athletic training facilities more efficient, safe, and attractive. Work to reduce expenditures, operational expenses, and medical costs. Assure that the athletic training facilities at Kaplan Arena are clean, safe, and secure. Schedule all cleaning and maintenance. Maintain the vehicles used by Sports Medicine: Coordinate all repairs, routine maintenance, and filling with gas. Complete all van use requests in a timely manner. Educate all staff and students on proper accident reporting procedures and vehicle use restrictions. Medical Clearance Process: Design and direct the process by which incoming and returning student-athletes are cleared for participation. Coordinate with the Insurance and Records Coordinator the documentation of clearance and completion of all follow-up evaluations. Medical Records: Review medical transcriptions for accuracy. Coordinate the review of all medical documentation with physicians and staff. Review scanned material to ensure that all materials are scanned into the electronic medical records system correctly.
