Position Summary
Wiley University is seeking a dynamic, student-centered leader to serve as Dean of Student Services. This role is responsible for overseeing the delivery, coordination, and continuous improvement of student support services that directly impact student success, engagement, and retention.
The Dean provides strategic oversight and operational leadership across key functional areas including residential life, student health services, and athletic support services (in collaboration with Directors of Instrumental Sports). This position ensures a cohesive, high-quality student experience aligned with Wiley University’s mission and commitment to developing leaders for social good.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Oversight
- Provide leadership and partial oversight of:
- Residential Life / Residence Halls
- Student Health Services
- Directors of Instrumental Sports / Athletic Support Services
- Ensure alignment across departments to create a seamless and supportive student experience
- Supervise and support directors and managers within assigned functional areas
Student Experience & Engagement
- Develop and implement strategies to improve student satisfaction, engagement, and retention
- Serve as a central point of coordination for student services across campus
- Promote a culture of care, accountability, and belonging within student-facing departments
Operational Excellence
- Establish and monitor service standards across all student service functions
- Use data (retention, conduct, housing occupancy, health utilization, etc.) to drive decisions
- Identify gaps in services and implement scalable solutions
Collaboration & Campus Partnership
- Work closely with:
- Academic Affairs
- Enrollment Management
- Athletics
- Campus Safety
- People & Culture (HR)
- Support cross-functional initiatives that enhance the overall student lifecycle
Policy, Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with university policies, health and safety regulations, and applicable laws
- Oversee student-related policies related to housing, wellness, and student conduct (in partnership with appropriate departments)
- Address escalated student concerns and critical incidents
Strategic Planning
- Contribute to university-wide strategic initiatives related to student success
- Support initiatives tied to enrollment growth, student retention, and campus culture
- Assist in budget planning and resource allocation for student services
Preferred
- Experience in a higher education environment (HBCU experience strongly preferred)
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams
- Experience driving student retention and engagement initiatives
- Familiarity with student information systems and data-driven decision-making

- Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field)
- 5 years of progressive leadership experience in student services, student affairs, or related areas
- Demonstrated experience overseeing or working within:
- Residential life
- Student health/wellness
- Athletics or student engagement programs
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
