What are the responsibilities and job description for the Solar Designer position at Wide Effect Talent Solutions?
Key Responsibilities:
- Model photovoltaic (PV) systems using PVSyst or Helioscope to develop energy production estimates.
- Conduct site surveys to assess existing field conditions and electrical infrastructure.
- Design renewable energy projects in accordance with applicable building codes, industry best practices, and project specifications.
- Prepare electrical permit and construction drawings, including single-line diagrams, installation details, equipment schedules, and engineering calculations.
- Develop interconnection packages and supporting documentation for utility and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) approvals.
- Create shop drawings and construction details to support field installation teams.
- Capture existing building conditions using drone technology or ground-based scanning equipment.
- Produce AutoCAD layouts based on site conditions, customer requirements, and applicable codes.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and installation contractors to support successful project execution.
- Review field markups, collect as-built information, and update record drawings throughout project completion.
- Maintain accurate project documentation from design through closeout.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience in electrical construction or renewable energy design.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in renewable energy electrical design and construction.
- NABCEP certification, AutoCAD certifications, or other electrical engineering certifications are preferred.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, including:
- Voltage drop calculations
- Conductor ampacity
- Power factor analysis
- Arc flash and arc fault studies
- Short circuit analysis
- Protection coordination and protective relaying
- Electrical equipment selection
- Working knowledge of general construction and electrical construction practices.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD 2D, AutoCAD 3D, Revit, Bluebeam, and renewable energy modeling software such as PVSyst or Helioscope.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Salary : $100,000 - $130,000
