What are the responsibilities and job description for the Contract Bookkeeper position at Whitten Hardware, LLC?
This is a 1099 contractor engagement, not a W-2 position. You set your own schedule, use your own tools, and operate independently. We care about clean books and clear communication, not where or when you sit at a desk.
What you'd be handling:
General ledger management and monthly reconciliations across multiple entities. Accounts payable and receivable, inter-company transaction tracking, and expense classification across three states. Monthly financial statement preparation. Monthly sales tax submission. Payroll data coordination with our payroll provider. Year-end 1099 reporting for our own contractors. Coordination with our CPA for quarterly reviews and annual tax prep.
What we're looking for:
3 years of bookkeeping experience with multi-entity or holding company structures. QuickBooks proficiency (Online or Desktop). Solid understanding of accrual-basis accounting, inter-company journal entries, and consolidated reporting. Familiarity with multi-state payroll tax obligations. Experience working directly with a CPA during tax season.
Bonus points for:
- Retail inventory accounting experience (COGS, shrinkage, vendor credits). Residential real estate accounting (rental income, depreciation, escrow tracking). QuickBooks ProAdvisor or AIPB/NACPB certification. Prior experience supporting a family office or private investment entity.
