Whitby's Lower School is seeking an experienced, innovative classroom teacher who excels in a highly collaborative, co-teaching environment. First grade at Whitby is a critical year for developing both core academic foundations and student agency. We are looking for a practitioner who is as comfortable leading an explicit phonics lesson as they are facilitating a student-led inquiry. Sharing classroom responsibility with a co-teacher, you will provide the deep differentiation and small-group support necessary for first-grade success.
While experience with the IBPYP is a distinct advantage, we prioritize a commitment to the highest standards of professionalism and a desire to grow within our dynamic faculty. QUALIFICATIONS:
- Embracing and fulfilling Whitby’s mission statement
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from an accredited college/university; Advanced degree in Literacy or Early Childhood Education preferred
- Minimum of three years’ teaching experience
- Deep familiarity with Structured Literacy instruction
- Willingness to engage in professional development both inside and outside of the regular teacher calendar
- Excellent work ethic, strong communication skills
- Satisfactory completion of pre-employment background check
- Experience facilitating inquiry-based learning; IBPYP experience preferred
