Whatcom County Health & Community Services is seeking to fill the position of Temporary Extra Help Accounting Technician. This position fills a critical role in the business office of the Health Department, primarily responsible for grant tracking and invoicing in our complicated fiscal environment.
Essential Job Duties include:
- Independently researching, compiling, and preparing complex financial reports, budgets and audit information for contracts and grants.
- Assisting program supervisors on grant requirements and compliance.
- Ensuring reporting is completed in a timely manner.
- Reconciling accounts receivable.
- Receiving, receipting, reconciling and depositing money and goods.
- Auditing employee time sheets for accuracy
- Preparing payroll
- Maintaining records of vacation, sick leave and all other payroll records
- Maintaining documentation of employee salary matrix placement and initiating source documents to implement changes to pay.
Supervisor: Accounting Supervisor
Hours of Work: This is a variable-hour position, generally scheduled Monday–Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. You may work full-time for up to three consecutive months. After that period, the position is limited to no more than 69 hours per month.

Wage: $22.83 per hour.Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- 4 years of progressively responsible experience in an accounting-related field
- Completion of 15 credit hours of accounting or bookkeeping courses beyond the high school level
Preferred:
- Experience with grant and contract accounting and monitoring.
- Knowledge of governmental accounting.
