Your Recipe for Impact — What You’ll Do

As an Indirect Supply Chain Director, you will shape the strategy and operating model for Whataburger’s entire indirect procurement ecosystem — optimizing spend, strengthening vendor partnerships, and ensuring business‑critical goods and services flow reliably across the organization. Day-to-Day Ingredients — Responsibilities

As an Indirect Supply Chain Director, you will:

• Lead the strategic direction and execution of the full Indirect Supply Chain function, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals.
• Drive transformation across indirect spend areas through vendor consolidation, process standardization, technology integration, and continuous improvement.
• Oversee category management and IT procurement, applying strategic sourcing and supplier evaluation to maximize value.
• Direct end‑to‑end RFx processes (RFI/RFQ/RFP), from requirements gathering to vendor selection and contract execution.
• Lead enterprise vendor strategy, including performance management, risk mitigation, and negotiation of long‑term partnerships.
• Provide oversight for purchasing operations, fleet & travel, and indirect inventory management to support business growth.
• Drive cost optimization across all indirect categories using analytics, market insights, and demand management.
• Establish KPIs and reporting systems that ensure transparency, accountability, and operational excellence.
• Ensure compliance with procurement policies, legal standards, and risk‑management expectations.
• Champion technology adoption and process improvements that enhance automation, visibility, and data‑driven decisions.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to support new unit development, expansion initiatives, and enterprise‑level projects.

What You Bring to the Table — Required Experience

As an Indirect Supply Chain Director, you must have:

• Bachelor’s degree.
• 10–12 years of progressive supply chain, procurement, or sourcing leadership.
• 5 years supervising teams across multiple levels, ideally in a senior leadership capacity.
• Deep expertise in indirect procurement, category management, supplier negotiations, and vendor governance.
• Strong financial, analytical, and strategic planning capability with a track record of cost optimization.
• Advanced communication, influence, and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office and procurement/ERP systems such as Workday.

Extra Toppings — Desired Experience

As an Indirect Supply Chain Director, we prefer you to have:

• Master’s degree.
• Experience supporting multi‑location restaurant, retail, or hospitality operations preferred.
• Professional supply chain or procurement certification (CPSM, CSCP, SCMP, etc.).
• Experience leading enterprise‑level transformation, automation, or technology modernization initiatives.
• Background managing diverse indirect categories such as IT, real estate, marketing, or operational services.
• Expertise in advanced sourcing methodologies, complex contract negotiation, or multi‑year vendor agreements.
• Strong supplier risk management experience, including compliance audits or governance frameworks.
• Advanced financial modeling or cost‑optimization analytics to support strategic decision making.
• Experience presenting to senior executives or influencing decisions across multiple business units.

Where & How You’ll Work

This role is based at the San Antonio Home Office, working on‑site Monday through Thursday with remote flexibility on Fridays. In this role, you’ll have strong collaboration with leadership, across cross-functional teams, and with external partners to align capabilities with restaurant realities. The work environment is fast‑paced and requires sound judgment, strategic thinking, and strong collaboration skills. Full‑time availability is required, with occasional extended hours based on business needs, along with occasional travel to properties, project sites, and external meetings. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of the San Antonio Home Office.
