About the Role:
The HR Generalist in the transportation and warehousing industry plays a pivotal role in managing and supporting the full spectrum of human resources functions to ensure a productive and compliant workforce. This position is responsible for overseeing employee lifecycle processes including recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and employee relations, all while maintaining adherence to industry-specific regulations and company policies. The HR Generalist acts as a key liaison between management and employees, fostering a positive work environment through effective communication, conflict resolution, and employee engagement initiatives. Additionally, this role involves administering benefits, payroll functions, and compliance with labor laws such as ADA and workers' compensation, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Ultimately, the HR Generalist contributes to the operational success of the organization by aligning HR strategies with business goals and supporting a motivated, well-informed, and compliant workforce.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or business administration, or 10 years in Human Resource experience.
- Experience in a generalist HR role, preferably within the transportation or warehousing industry.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws, ADA compliance, ADP Workforce Now or TotalSource, and payroll administration.
- Proven experience in recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, and performance management.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills with a high level of attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional HR certification such as PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent.
- Experience with HRIS systems and payroll software specific to the transportation and warehousing sector.
- Background in event planning and employee engagement initiatives.
- Familiarity with drug screening protocols and safety compliance standards in transportation.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with a team-oriented approach.
Responsibilities:
- Manage end-to-end recruitment processes including internet recruiting, conducting background checks, and drug screening to attract and hire qualified personnel.
- Develop, implement, and maintain training documentation and new hire orientations to ensure employees are well-prepared and informed.
- Administer employee benefits, payroll functions, leave management, and workers' compensation claims in compliance with applicable laws and company policies.
- Handle employee relations by addressing performance issues, rewarding and disciplining employees fairly, and fostering a positive workplace culture.
- Ensure compliance with ADA regulations and other labor laws while developing and updating HR policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate employee records and documentation with attention to detail and confidentiality.
- Coordinate and plan employee events and initiatives that promote engagement and team collaboration.
- Provide excellent customer service to employees and management by responding promptly to HR-related inquiries and concerns.
- Manage multiple priorities effectively while working collaboratively as a team player within the HR department and across the organization.
