Upper School English Teacher
Westtown School seeks a full-time Upper School English Teacher to join our faculty in August 2026. The Upper School English Teacher will teach four classes each semester and participate fully in the Upper School's co-curricular and residential life.
Full-time Upper School faculty members contribute to the academic, residential, and co-curricular programs in various capacities. Responsibilities include teaching classes, advising a small group of students, serving on two school committees, participating in the co-curricular program by coaching interscholastic sports, leading lifelong fitness programs (such as yoga), or supporting collaborative programs such as theater or service network. Faculty also contribute to the residential program as Dorm Parents or Dorm Affiliates, which includes one weeknight of duty and scheduled weekend responsibilities during the school year. On-campus housing may be available for faculty who participate in residential life, but is not guaranteed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Designs culturally responsive lessons that promote problem-solving, creativity, collaboration, and effective communication while encouraging intellectual risk-taking;
Actively engages students through discussion, inquiry, group work, project-based learning, and other student-centered approaches;
Supports students in developing critical thinking, empathy, and the ability to collaborate across differences;
Helps students hone the essential skills of critical thinking, communication, and empathy, and empowers them to draw out those skills in other people;
Nurtures students’ social-emotional development and identity formation;
Contributes to building and sustaining an inclusive school community and a program that reflects and values diverse perspectives and experiences;
Communicates effectively and in a timely manner with students, colleagues, administrators, and parents;
Integrates technology effectively into classroom practice, including the use of Canvas;
Contributes to the holistic experience of our students through participation in co-curricular programs, student life activities, and the Upper School residential program;
Contributes to students’ development of Quaker values;
Engages in collaborative decision-making aligned with Quaker process in service to the school community;
Enthusiastically seeks out and participates in both school-sponsored and self-selected professional development opportunities to deepen instructional practice and strengthen community engagement.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field required; advanced degree preferred;
3-5 years of relevant high school teaching experience and an understanding of adolescent development;
Genuine enthusiasm for full participation in academic, co-curricular, and residential life;
Coaching experience and an interest in participating in the athletics program are a plus;
Familiarity with Google Workspace and learning management systems such as Canvas, and the ability to incorporate technology effectively into instructional practices;
Demonstrated commitment to enhancing an inclusive school community based on cultural competence, commitment to social justice, and respect for all voices;
Excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to build meaningful relationships with students throughout our diverse community;
