Western State Bank is seeking an experienced SVP / Commercial Banking Team Lead to drive market growth, lead a high-performing commercial banking team, and deliver strong risk-adjusted returns while maintaining the disciplined credit culture that defines our organization.
This is a player/coach leadership role responsible for strategy execution, revenue growth, credit oversight, and talent development within a defined commercial banking segment (C&I, CRE, Middle Market, or specialty vertical).

What You’ll Do
Team Leadership & Strategy Execution
Lead, coach, and develop a team of Commercial Banking Officers
Execute an annual business plan aligned with regional and enterprise strategy
Drive disciplined pipeline governance, forecasting accuracy, and credit review cadence
Own hiring, succession planning, and performance management
Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and risk-adjusted return focus
Business Development & Revenue Growth
Drive loan, deposit, and fee income growth through new client acquisition and wallet share expansion
Strengthen treasury management penetration and non-interest-bearing deposit growth
Maintain and grow a significant personal portfolio of complex commercial relationships
Develop Centers of Influence (COI) relationships (attorneys, CPAs, developers, private equity sponsors, industry leaders)
Monitor portfolio profitability, pricing discipline, and spread management
Credit & Risk Governance
Ensure sound credit structuring and adherence to policy and regulatory standards
Exercise delegated credit authority and participate in credit committee discussions
Manage portfolio stratification, concentration risk, and covenant compliance
Proactively address criticized/classified assets in partnership with Credit and Special Assets
Support loan review, audit, and regulatory examinations
Client Relationship Management
Serve as senior escalation point for complex client relationships
Drive long-term franchise value through strong retention and cross-sell execution
What You Bring
12–15 years of progressive commercial banking experience
5 years of team leadership experience
Demonstrated success managing a multi-million-dollar commercial portfolio
Proven ability to drive loan growth, deposit generation, and fee income
Strong commercial credit structuring and underwriting expertise
Strategic mindset with strong financial acumen
Exceptional relationship-building and negotiation skills
Risk-aware leadership approach
