What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Renovation Coordinator position at Western Carolina University?
The primary location of this position is on-site in Cullowhee, NC. This position is designated as being exempt from the State of North Carolina Human Resources Act (EHRA).
This position coordinates facility renovation projects across Western Carolina University’s campus, operating with significant independence on projects assigned by the Work Control Supervisor.
Drawing on working knowledge of construction trades, building materials, structural components, and electrical and mechanical systems, the incumbent meets with department heads and deans to assess space needs and determine optimal configurations, develops accurate cost estimates, prepares bid specifications, and manages the full contractor solicitation and coordination process through final payment approval.
The position also plans, sketches, and estimates in-house Facilities Management projects — such as sidewalk installations, electronic classroom construction, and area lighting — preparing associated purchase requisitions and coordinating priorities and schedules with the Work Control Supervisor.
Familiarity with North Carolina State Building Codes, ADA compliance requirements, Life/Safety Codes, and the National Electrical Code ensures that renovation plans meet all applicable regulatory and safety standards. The position must also communicate effectively with building occupants to determine needs, explain structural and systems constraints, and review completed trade work for quality.
