Position Overview
As an HIM Clerk, you will be responsible for maintaining and retrieving accurate patient medical records to support efficient communication among providers. Your role is vital to ensuring timely access to clinical information that supports diagnosis, treatment, and research. This position calls for strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to confidentiality and excellent service.
Key Responsibilities
- Retrieve phone messages, faxes, and Digifax, then sort and distribute to the appropriate departments
- Communicate with radiologists and obtain necessary reports
- Handle release of information requests, including disability, FMLA, insurance, and litigation
- Correspond with physicians, nurses, and staff both within West Cancer Center and at outside facilities via phone, email, and fax
- Prepare patient records for faxing, mailing, or pick-up
- Coordinate with Front Desk staff regarding patient record pick-up
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of six months related experience preferred
- Experience with medical records strongly preferred
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and with attention to detail
- Professionalism and discretion in handling sensitive patient information
